The Sonicverse

Roleplaying with the Raiders can lead to some common misconceptions – the most obvious one being the impression that we are a Furry guild. I must stress, however, that we are NOT a Furry guild. Our origins are rooted in the Sonic the Hedgehog universe, and no matter how different our world is from theirs, both are linked. The Sonicverse does indeed exist inside the overall Raiderverse.

To make the distinction between these two worlds clear, the Sonicverse has been fit onto one continent, commonly referred to as the Southern Continent (due to a lack of imaginative names). Our Sonicverse incorporates elements from both the games and the Archie comics, with notable exceptions and alterations. First of all, the games. We DO NOT recognize any of the console games past Sonic Adventure 2 as canon (with exception to Sonic Riders, but we ditched the Alien origins of the Babylon Rogues). We also recognize the GBA/DS games as canon as well.

All landmasses in these games are present in the Raidersverse in some form or another. Same with story elements – so yes, the moon is missing a chunk due to ARK’s blast. We also recognize landmasses from the Archie comics. Zones are a different matter, which will be addressed. For general story purposes, keep in mind these things:

- Eggman has his base in Robotropolis. Worth noting is that there is an odd story discrepancy: Eggman is confirmed as fighting on the Southern Continent, yet Ivo Robotnik is among the Raiders. This is due to Eggman's cloning experiments, conducted several years ago. The identity of the clone is unknown.

- Knuckles rarely, if ever, leaves Angel Island. He is the last of the Angel Island Echidnas (more on that below).

- Places and events that occur throughout the games have also occurred on Renaissance Mobius - I.E. ARK blowing a chunk out of the moon in Sonic Adventure 2 - not to mention the existence of ARK in the first place.

- The Sonicverse ages alongside the Raidersverse – this means that in our timeline, Sonic is 21, Knuckles is 20, Tails is 16, Rouge is 23, Amy Rose is 18, Big is 24, Cream is 13, Espio is 22, Vector is 26, and Charmy is 14 (this list pertains to only those featured in the video games – comic character ages can be estimated based on these ages). Note that the ages of Shadow and Eggman are omitted, due to their unknown video game ages.

The GMs of the guild reserve the right to deny official characters into the Raiders in order to maintain continuity of the mainstream Sonic story. We also reserve the right to modify the Sonicverse as portrayed in Renaissance Mobius according to our storylines.

Now, due to the complex histories for Sonic and Knuckles as portrayed in the Archie comics and the simplified versions in the games, we’ve come up with the following history for them in the world of Renaissance Mobius. Also included below is a definition of Zones – those locations we’re all familiar with, as we’ve played through them all in the games.

Zones

Zones are special pocket dimensions that exist all over Renaissance Mobius. These are small worlds that exist parallel to Mobius, linked to our dimension by giant golden rings that appear and disappear regularly in the same general area (the time these rings remain present and how long they vanish for are undetermined. If someone spends more time in the Zone than the ring stays in our world, then when they exit they’ll just be dropped in the location where the ring once stood).

The way these Zones appear depends on the location of the rings. If the ring is in the mountains, the Zone is mountainous. On the plains, the Zone is open. Because these Zones (also referred to as Elemental Realms by various Raiders) contain essentially free land, they have often been tampered with by Eggman. Sonic has cleared most of them, however, and many have returned to normal.

These zones are also home to copious amounts of Power Rings which are actually quite scarce on Mobius proper. These rings provide nigh-everlasting power but are somewhat fragile. Due to their mystical aspects, if overused or misused they lose their power completely.

Sonic

We don’t need to explain Sonic’s overall story. He’s a hedgehog and the fastest thing alive, a steadfast do-gooder with a wild streak. What should be explained is his relationship to both the Freedom Fighters and the Raiders.

Like the Archie series, Dr. Ivo ‘Eggman’ Robotnik overthrew the Mobian government in the western reaches of the Southern Continent and began his evil career from the heart of Robotropolis, his industrial center of operations. A band of displaced Mobians rose up against him, aided by the rebellious Sonic the Hedgehog. He’s fought Eggman for years, both solo, with his partner Tails, or with the Freedom Fighters. He still fights the Eggman who controls that sector of the continent, though in recent years the Mobians have reigned in Eggman’s dreams of conquest and kept him busy at home.

Sonic is older and wiser now but is still a freedom-loving wild child. He has no significant others to speak of, despite the hounding attentions of Amy Rose.

Knuckles
Knuckles has a far more complex history than Sonic since his is directly connected to the Master Emerald, which in turn is connected to a far deeper storyline in the Raiderverse. So to keep you up to date on our favorite echidna, let’s back up a few generations.

Way back when, the echidnas of Angel Island worshipped the Master Emerald. A splinter faction, calling themselves the Dark Legion, worshipped their culture’s sworn adversary, Hectapol. Eventually the ideological differences led to a full-scale Holy War. The Master Emerald worshippers eventually won and banished the Dark Legion to a mystical place called the Twilight Zone (no relation to the popular television show).

Not longer after this the guardian of the chao, Chaos, grew angry with the echidnas and devastated their civilization. After he was once more sealed away inside the Master Emerald, the number of echidnas on Angel Island was only a fraction of what it once was. In the wake of such disasters, many decided that the Master Emerald had grown angry with them and so they undertook a self-imposed exile to the hidden city of Albion, their ancient home of legend. A small community decided to remain on the island in an effort to appease the Master Emerald. These echidnas became the very first Gaurdians.

Fast forward a few hundred years. Knuckles is the last Guardian in his line and the only echidna on Angel Island. His parents taught him what was necessary early on in his life before passing his tutelage to the Master emerald itself. They then retreated to Albion to join their estranged kin.

For years Knuckles protected the island alone until Sonic had his adventures there. The two left as friendly rivals, a first for Knuckles, who had lived so long in solitude. Not long after he met the Chaotix, a group of troublesome do-gooders, and in them found people he could trust to help him with his task. They are currently based on Angel Island and willingly lend their aid whenever Knuckles calls for them.

(As you can see, Knuckles’ story follows the games rather than the comics with a few exceptions. In our continuity, Knuckles is not old friends with Sally Acorn and does not date Julie-Su. He is the last echidna of the Angel Island tribe that resides on the island itself).

In the years between the release of the last video game and the current timeline, Knuckles has had his hands full. The Dark Legion has somehow found a way out of the Twilight Zone and have resumed their quest to conquer Angel Island. Knuckles has fought hard against them with the help of the Chaotix and their battle is ongoing.
