Urizen the Soul Devourer |
| In the year 1900 TR, the orbit of Tolaria took it rather close to
the mainland and brought them into contact with a small Lunari village.
These creatures were as old as the island itself, though had long since
fled its floating shores to pursue life on the mainland. The dying
species lived in a city of beauty and were eager to renew their
connection with their ancestral homeland. At this time, the Tolarians were recovering from a series of tribal warfare that had taken place for centuries. Tired of these endless battles, they asked the Lunari for help, to which they gladly gave. They taught the ways of peace and beauty to the people of the Element Isle, in exchange for the knowledge contained within the shrouds of Tolaria's history since the Elementals descended. It was an even trade, and both societies benefited greatly from their alliance. In honor of this union, two cities were built on the island by the Lunari and native Tolarians. One was Lara, a place where Tolarians grew among and were taught by the Maraians. It was a Maraian settlement on the isle. The other was known as Talos, a place where the Lunari would grow among and learn from the best scholars and mages on Tolaria. These two cities thrived, and an era of enlightenment was born. A century into this era, an ancient evil awoke. It's name was uttered in many tongues, though the Tolarians refer to it as Urizen. The Shadow Beast Urizen thrived on destruction, feeding on the fear it inspired and the souls of those whom it killed. It was thought to be an unstoppable force, until an Echidhog named Damus stepped forward. Taught at both cities, Damus was a renowned scholar and unparalleled seer, his prophecies contained in many books of lore. In his thirst for knowledge, he journeyed across Tolaria and even for some time along the mainland for the arcane and unknown. He fell in love with an echidna woman named Nayru, and the two lived happily with each other. This was until she fell victim to one of Urizen's first attack. Driven by fury and empowered by rage, Damus tracked the demon creature down, wielding power of unrivaled force which he had gathered over his years. The two forces fought, and never before had such a battle been seen. It crossed the island, reshaping it's landscapes as the two fighters past. Talos and the remains of the ruined city of Lara were sent to another realm to keep safe as the world around them erupted in darkness. Finally, after a long year of fighting, Urizen was entrapped by Damus' magic. Their battle resulted in the creation of temporal displacements all over the isle, these rifts leading to various ages in Tolaria's history. Damus himself faded from history, leaving prophecies, tomes, and maps in his wake, but Urizen lived on to rise again in the year 2052. He resumed his destructive path, but was quickly stopped by the efforts of the then-Guardian and an gathering devoted to upholding justice and peace. |
