Formation of the Island

According to recently unearthed legends, the formation of Tolaria was somewhat different than what the myth originally suggested.

Thousands of years ago, in the time of the Lunari, a great disaster fell upon the world in the form of soul-devouring creatures called Spirit Beasts. Unable to be harmed by conventional means, these Beasts threatened to strip Mobius bare of all its life forms. In an effort to control the indestructible creatures, a great conclave was called by the Lunari, bringing together all the spiritual leaders of all their tribes.

Performing an ancient rite, the gathered priests were able to summon great power and merge with the spiritual essences of the gods. With their combined powers, an island was constructed that would hold the Spirit Beasts - an island that would exist apart from the world to prevent the beasts from ever threatening Mobius again.

After the island was created and the Beasts locked away, however, the newly ascendant priests discovered that their new land was a paradise unlike the lands they had originally come from. Perhaps reassured that their new power would keep their people safe, they transported their tribes onto Tolaria.

These new gods became the incarnation of the gods Kaios, Imbrium, Gaia, Caine, and Thanatos. To the people of the newly created Tolaria, they were called the Elementals, in recognition of their great powers.

However, despite their power and benevolent nature, they were mortal in thought and feeling, and would eventually succumb to mortal weaknesses...

Presented below is the original creation mythology as believed by the Tolarians.

Long ago, when the world was young, five spirits descended from the heavens. They were creatures made of up of the very essences of life. Of them were one born of the earth, one of the fire, another of the water, another born of air, and the last of death. Their names have been repeated throughout time, throughout memory, throughout many various tongues. To the people who would come to live on the land they created, they were known as the Elementals.

They fell from grace, descending from the heavens to the world. Four Elementals remained in the ethereal world these creatures were born from, and they reside there to this very day. The five that descended saw the world as corrupt, chaotic and unbalanced. They worked together and created a world all it's own, an isle dedicated to balance, order, and life. An isle that claimed the best of all worlds. This island, that floated above the chaos of the world, was called Tolaria.

The Elementals gathered species from all around the world to inhabit their beloved isle. This was the golden age of Tolaria, where the people, as well as the land, prospered and thrived.

In the center of the isle was a large mountain called Mount Infinity, a temple perched at the very top. This temple was a tribute to the Elementals, a symbol of the love held for them. The only creatures who lived at this temple were scholars, educators and mages who dedicated their lives to learning and the magical arts. Many inhabitants of the isle would journey to these holy grounds to learn among the Scholars.

This age of wonderment lasted approximately a single millennia. During this time, while the Tolarians lived happily, the Elementals grew restless. Their restlessness would result in one of the most devastating events in Tolarian history...
