The Isle

Tolaria is typically made up of six sections, separated by a chain of mountains. This is just the basic configuration, of course. Over the course of history, Tolaria's geography has been changed numerous times. Each time it has returned to this basic geographic configuration. At the center of the mountain chain lies a dormant volcano, inside of which lies the Fire Temple. There is also a gate atop the mountain that leads to the realm of fire... as well as another, unknown place.

Each half is divided into three sections, ruled by a particular element. On one side lies the zones of Metropolis, Ice Mountain and Rock Canyon. On the other side of the mountains rest are the zones of Shadow, the Tolarian Forest and the Tolarian Sea. Within certain zones lie the Elemental Temples.

Rock Canyon is, as its name suggest, a large area consisting of low mountains, valleys, and gorges. In one particular valley is Kyren's Forge, home of the Badger Lord and his comrades.

The Ice Mountains are as the name suggests. They are large, but smaller than the chain of mountains that runs across the center of the island. It is wedged between Rock Canyon and Metropolis.

Metropolis City is the center of sentient life forms on the isle. This zone is one massive city, inhabited by creatures of all races. It is a self-contained city, gathering food and supplies from the other zones of the isle rather than the outside world.

The Tolarian Sea is wedged between the Tolarian Forest and the end of the mountain range. It is held in the air against the isle by magic, though it can be disconcerting if seen from below. The center of this sea consists of large, cave-like reefs, home to the mer-species of Tolaria. Predan Island floats on the surface near its center as well.

The Tolarian Forest is wedged between the Tolarian Sea and the Shadow zone. Its main source of water is Thuran Lake, set deep inside of its realm. The lake is fed by a waterfall, which in turn is fed by the Thuran river that descends from the mountains.

Lastly is the Dark Xone. It is made up of a sea of seething violet energy that can take the lives of those who touch it. It can cause the degeneration of limbs, or, in the case of total submersion, death. These effects are instantaneous and cannot be avoided. The sea of energy is dotted with large rock formations, creating miniature islands in this land of death. No vegetation grows here, and no animals live here either. It is a barren realm of death.
