SSIS and me

My life is centered upon this place...

This is my school, SSIS. SSIS is located near the center of the Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) on the eastern edge of the ancient historical city of Suzhou. This rapidly developing industrial sector was set up as a joint venture between the governments of the People's Republic of China and Singapore. Since this school is set up in this joint venture park, it is named between the two cities of china and Singapore, and hence its name. The school is an important part of the park's development providing a high quality education to students like me from over twenty different countries.

SSIS use the international curriculum of MYP, or Middle Years Program. It is an internationally recognized program for secondary in most international schools around the world. The middle years program includes 12 main subjects and a cca, which is organized and hosted by the school. The 12 subjects includes: English, Chinese, Science, Math, Drama, Art, Music, History, Geography, PE, ICT and Design/Food Technology. However, since I am in grade 9, the school wants us to specialize in the arts, technologies and sciences, therefore, I now dont study food tech, art and music anymore, but I still study all 3 branches of science and design technology.

MYP is not only about grades, it is also about the student having an awareness about thins going on around them. The MYP also have certain policies governing the teaching methods used here in SSIS. The threads that link the subject areas are at the core of the MYP and are known as the Areas of Interaction. These are

 The Approaches to Learning
 Community and Service
 Environment
 Health and Social Education
 Homo Faber

Each student also completes a Personal Project in 10th grade. This is an independent piece of work that may take the form of an essay, an artistic production or other form of expression and is intended to show the students understanding of the five Areas of Interaction.
In SSIS, we learn ICT as part of three branches of technology, which is deemed vital to our future education. As the world progresses into the E-Era, or electronic era, it seems that a knowledge on computer is getting more and more important, and thus the course we are currently attending. ICT would help us in the future, as other subjects starts to link up with computer technology, such as maths spreadsheets and geography powerpoint presentaitons.
One extra note, I do like drama in SSIS. This is one of the branches of arts which I am currently taking. To me, drama is fun, and it is poised as a door to express oneselves through a combination of actions, body language and words. The coordination of these three elements, together supplemented by one's self confidence, is the key to sucess in any career in the future, Therefore, drama would not just be an art not worht mentioning, it is a subject with polishes our oral presentation skills. And i love drama
