tortoise

This is a picture of a land tortoise on a road in the Republic of South Africa. I believe I took this photo somewhere in the Northern Cape Province. These tortoises were pretty common, and I saw at least twenty crossing roads during the month I was visiting South Africa. At one point, we ran over and killed one. This particular tortoise is about 8 inches long at the shell, and he peed all over my hand.
