| This is a photo taken of a mother white rhinoceros mother with her baby. It was taken through a 200mm telephoto lens. They were approx 100 or so yards away from me when the picture was taken. It was taken at Rolfontein Nature Reserve in March 2000. Rolfontein is located near the town of Vanderkloof in the Northern Cape Province, in the Republic of South Africa. This was a totally cool thing to see. We observed the rhinos for about a half hour before they moved off. There were three other rhinos in the park, but they were in a place I call the lost valley (photo to be uploaded at some point), and were too far away to show up in a picture. White rhinos are grazing animals, and are not nearly as endangered as the black rhino. |
