Hlegu Demonstration Center

Location

It was located in Hlegu Town, 28 miles north of Yangon, on the Yangon-Mandalay highway. Hlegu, Hmawbi and Mingaladon townships are incorporated under this Field Training Center.

Objective

To provide medical and basic health workers field training in the concept and methodology of community health practices.

Field Report

We were given a presentation on the center’s programme by its director, A/Prof Nwe Nwe Win and shown samples of the House Surgeons’ projects. They were similar to the Community Health Projects to be done by third-year medical students in NUS except that they are based on a rural setting.

Later, we were taken on a tour of the township which helped us gain an insight into the daily lives of the rural folks and to better appreciate their lifestyle and living conditions.
