Anthropometric Studies
Background
1. Nutritional assessment is the interpretation of information obtained from dietary, biochemical, anthropometric and clinical studies.
2. This information is used to determine the health status of individuals or population groups as influenced by their intake and utilization of nutrients.
3. In this way, we can establish the extent and distribution of the problem in the community, and to identify the associated environmental factors in order not only to provide appropriate therapeutic facilities but also to institute preventive measures.
Questions
1. What are the parameters used in anthropometric studies?
2. What are the advantages and disadvantages of anthropometry over the other methods of nutritional assessment?
3. How do we interpret the data collected from such studies?
4. What are the intervention measures we can introduce for malnourished children in the community?
