The Bible says in Pro 21:2 �Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the heart.�
We all believe our way is right before God but God weighs the heart! The bible says Jer 17:9 �The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?�
Perhaps you might say I have always sought out the Lord, I'm a good person! The Bible says in Rom 3:10 as it is written: "None is righteous, no, not one;
Rom 3:11 no one understands; no one seeks for God.
Rom 3:12 All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one."
You say you seek after God but the Bible says that none have!
Perhaps you still say that you're basically good. Let me ask you a question. Have you kept the ten commandments? Have you ever told a lie? Have you stolen anything? Even in your youth the value of the object is irrelevant. If I took a dollar from your wallet and left the twenty I would still be guilty. Time doesn't change the facts either. Have you ever used God's name in vain? That's blasphemy to take God's Holy name and use it as a four letter word for disgust. If you've done these things you are a lying, thieving, blasphemer at heart and God will not hold you guiltless on the day of judgment. You've dishonored your parents as well because they taught you not to lie and steal! This is just four of the commandments! Well now you might say I kept some of the commandments doesn't that count for something? The Bible says Jas 2:10 For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become accountable for all of it.
Sin carries an awful penalty, death and an eternity in hell the Bible says in Rev 21:8 �But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death."
If you think God will not punish sin by throwing people into hell then you have made a god in your own imagination, a
god that will suit you, a god that will conform to what you want! That is called idolatry and you're guilty before God of breaking the 2nd commandment.
What of the 6th commandment, you shall not commit murder? Have you ever hated anyone? The Bible says 1Jn 3:15 �Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.�
If we were to stand before God and He judged us by His standard none of us would be found guiltless.
Jesus Christ, the Son of God, paid the penalty for our sin on the cross. God judged Jesus Christ in our place. It's just as if you had committed a crime and the judge said you must pay 100,000 dollars or you're going to jail. Then someone you did not even know, got up and paid your fine for you. The penalty of the crime has been paid and you're free to go. That's what Jesus did on the Cross. You must repent (turn from sin) and believe in Jesus Christ that He died for your sins. Then you will be saved from hell. If you do this I would like to then encourage you to read the Bible daily and find a good Bible believing church.
