play an accordion as good as Andy could!!

    VALSE CADIEN

    "Valse de Ville Platte"
Recorded in ???? by Wallace "Cheese" Reed,
who was a vocalist and fine fiddle player.

Related song, "Lawtell Waltz" by Harry Choates.
Here are some of the words of the "Ville Platte Waltz"

Si tu vou-darais promette de r' venir avec moi,
Oh rester avec moi dans la Ville Platte.
If you want to promise to come back with me ,
Oh to stay with me in Ville Platte!

In the old days parents would not encourge the children to play music, there was no money to be made in that. They wanted their child to farm or get a job in town where they could get a little cash for their labor. Most of the musician learn at a early age with no lesson just by watching others play. When things where tight the musician played for a chicken or just their supper. Sometimes they would pass the hat around to collect money, and usually picked up a dollar or two. Of course in them days that was not bad. Often when they played at Dance Halls they would only get paid a percentage of the money picked at the door. After they became well known for their music sometimes they would get paid (the group) as much as four dollars to play at a house dance or Dance Hall. Now you know why they all had second jobs!!
