Socialsocial

Welcome to Socialsocial – an informal Wellington social group of non-smoking, 40s to 50s single professional and business people who are open to meeting new friends.  

The aim of the group is to:

• have you meet as many new like-minded people as possible without extra costs and without formal organisation.  

We do this by:

• providing a casual setting for you to meet, and enjoy good company and food; 

• providing social situations such as dinners, dancing and partying; walks, nights out listening to music, and

• using email to advise members about activities where you feel  comfortable inviting the group to participate.

We want Socialsocial to be a group where you can enjoy events that have been organised by some of the members, where you can suggest activities, or find people to join you in going to a movie or a show.  You can be as involved as you wish and turn up to events as they fit in with your work, family and other friends. 

History

The group was started about 2 years ago when a couple of people had become disillusioned with the options that  were currently available to meet people of the opposite sex.

Since the beginning many friendships have developed.  Its not a permanent group - people have come and gone and come back again..... 

Relationships between members of the opposite sex have also been formed (and broken) and we have even had a couple marriages.

We currently have over 80 people on our email list.

Mid-week after-work

The regular Wednesday get together begins at 5.30 - 6pm.  Currently we are meeting at The Bristol Hotel in Cuba Mall. (131-135 Cuba St Wellington)

People who are on the Socialsocial email list but have yet to attend a dinner are very welcome at pub night, but it is a good idea to email us in advance, if possible, so we can look out for you.  

We normally sit close to the fireplace and you will find we are an excessively friendly lot so introduce yourself. 

Dinners, BBQs, pub nights, dance classes, and walks are some of the activities that you can choose to take part in when you are a member of Socialsocial. 

Other one-off activities that have been arranged include a weekend golf trip in the Wairarapa, jazz gigs, dance nights and the occasional party hosted at a member’s house.  

Saturday dinners

These tend to be arranged on a regular basis. 

We select a date and choose a restaurant, then email members inviting them.

Once we know how many are interested we finalise the details.  

We attempt to have an equal number of men and women because of the nature of the event.

You are welcome to invite a friend but please let us know.

The restaurants are always BYO for wine.  The cost of the meal is usually up to $20.00  - $25.00 per head. 

The common format is to share the food and split the bill.

New people

If you are not on Socialsocial's email list, and fit the criteria,  we would love to hear from you. We are a very friendly lot, and new people always feel quickly at ease.

When you attend functions remember the two rules of fishing: fish where the fish are, and use the right bait. Hence, attend dinners and dress up not down.

This group is an email based one.  Information about events is sent via email. 

We only give out members email addresses to other members with their permission.
