Bloodthirsty Tournament Director Exposed!!!!

Wednesday Kick-off - Late Show 02/02/00

So, you think our director Ron is a nice sweet guy who wouldn't hurt a fly huh? Well do we have news for you. His meanness showed through as he pitted viscous ORCAS (you know, Killer Whales) against one of nature's loveable little creatures. Yes, that's right - ORCAS against SEALS!!! And guess who was the head ORCA. Well I guess you get the picture. Believe me, it was not pretty. The poor unsuspecting SEALS jumped out to a quick start with a playful 2-0 lead in the first round. They were of course unaware of the danger that lurked around them. Without a moment's hesitation and with one gigantic bite, the ORCAS spurred on by their bloodthirsty leader, gobbled up the next three matches for a 3-2 lead at the end of the round. Undaunted by the viscous attack, the SEALS playfully jumped into the water for the next round. They once again, in the spirit of fun and frivolity, won the first 2 matches. Again the monsters of the deep took a bite. This time it was the head ORCA leading the feeding frenzy. In case some of you think I exaggerate, let me present the following as evidence. With a rubber already in, game on and a 60 leg (opps score 50), Ron settled comfortably into 3 no trump. When dummy came down, a claim was made for 13 tricks. "You mean we can't even take one trick" said the poor SEAL opponent. That was true, against any lead the hand had 8 Clubs, 3 Diamonds, 3 Hearts and 2 Spades off the top. That is unless the Spades broke (which they would) in which case there were another 3 Spades. 16 quick tricks with another 3 to burn!!! If the SEALS had only pushed Ron to bid 13 no trump they might have been able to set them. Anyway - spurred on by their teammates waving Pom-Poms, the remaining SEALS became a midnight snack for hungry ORCAS. The ORCAS had the lead again, this time 6-4. The valiant little SEALS still had a chance though as the last round was worth double points. They could still salvage a win. If only they could get a little outside help they might pull it off. A call went to Al the Dealer but he was apparently sleeping having worked hard to put all the points in the ORCA'S hands. Finally Greenpeace was sited off to the north. Help at last? As they approached we could read the sign and knew it must be over. In large print it read: "SAVE THE WHALES". That sealed a whale of a tournament.

Final score was ORCAS 14, SEALS 6.
