Friday Night Kick-off 2/4/00

It was right out of an old western movie Friday night as the two tournaments faced off against each other. It started like a scene from "High Noon" with the gunfighters slowly approaching each other in the middle of Main street. Then suddenly the sound of hoof beats filled the air. MUSTANGS came in from the right. STALLIONS rushed in from the left. As they got closer and closer it was easy to predict what was about to happen. Yes, that's right, the Ryder was horsing around again.

It never ceases to amaze me that no matter what mascots are chosen for these matches, the noise in the lounge never seems to get any less. I would have thought that horses would have been gentle, quiet, and a generally peaceful lot. Just to set the record straight, If we pitted the caterpillars against the worms, someone would come up with the noises made by each and we'd be off again. Anyway, suffice it to say it was a typical noisy lounge. Those who were not involved in the tournament once again thought we were nuts. As a matter of fact, I remember seeing those exact words in the messages.

As with any good string of horses, half of them jump off to a quick start while the rest sit back and finish the oats. The STALLIONS, being the stronger breed, were the ones to jump. They left the MUSTANGS in the dust at the end of round one trailing 5 to 2. The quick MUSTANGS used their speed to catch up slightly in the second round but still trail 8 to 6. True to any good race, it came down to the final lap. Would the strong STALLIONS hold on, or would the MUSTANGS have the quickness to pass them? The STALLIONS faltered in the stretch allowing the MUSTANGS to close the gap and win by a neck. Final score MUSTANGS 16 STALLIONS 12.
