CATS CLOBBER PUPPIES

BATTLE GOES ON OUTSIDE ALLEY

Some of the dogs, disgruntled over the results of today's battle, continued the fight on the way home from the alley. The fight spilled onto the street upsetting the peace and tranquility of the neighborhood. Humiliated by the worst thrashing in Ryder history some of the dogs struck back against the taunts and jeers. As usual, these extra curricular activities had no more meaning than the alley battles themselves. The only thing it did was guarantee another great grudge match next Saturday.

It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood. Nice and sunny but maybe just a bit too warm. At least it was too warm for Mr. Rogers to put that sweater on, but he did anyway. Maybe it was the sun, maybe it was the brilliance of the cats, or maybe it was Al the Dealer. August is when the "dog days" of summer are supposed to be here and they sure were on Saturday. I guess I had pictured the "dog days" as being glorious victories for the dogs. Days where they were unbeatable. Little did I know they were a public holiday for dogs. On the "dog days", no dogs have to do any work. You just sleep all day.

Some of the dogs tried their best to stay awake and put in a good game, but the call of the holiday must have been too much. The cats sprang to an early 10 to 2 lead after round one. The dogs woke up enough to take the second round 7 to 5, but it was too little, too late. The final round saw the cats mercilessly claw the dogs and win 11 of the 12 matches. This match will surely go down in history as a day of infamy for the dogs. It will become a war-cry for the dogs of the world. It will take its place with other great battle slogans like "Remember the Alamo", "Remember the Maine" and "Georgie Best for Prime Minister". The cats, by this lop-sided victory, may have given the dogs the very thing they needed to regain their position in the alley. Now that they have a cause and a battle cry, the only ingredient missing is a leader. There are many there capable of joining them together as the Big Dog did and when one steps up and takes his place on the loading dock the cats could be in for a rude awakening. Final Score was Cats 37 Dogs 11.
