The HappyEasterDog scurried through the alley early today hiding bones for the Easter Bone Hunt. Interested spectators peered over the fence to catch a glimpse of the excitement. The dogs started to arrive in packs, anxious to avenge the beating of last week. Most seemed oblivious to the scrambling of the youngsters to find the bones. They were more interested in making some cat bones of their own. You could feel the tension building in the alley. Catastrophic_dj was spotted sitting on a garbage can by a pack of the rowdier pups. "Is that the only cat here?", taunted one of the pack. "Let's take him" barked one. From the shadows someone said "I'm here." The pups decided to go back to the loading dock and wait. Harlequin Smiles gave us the explanation "When you are a 350 pound cat, dogs seem to ignore you". Thus another lesson in wisdom was learned in the schoolroom of the alley. Things settled a bit after that, but there was no sign of the desire for revenge diminishing even one little bit. You could feel it in the air, you could smell it through the puppy chow. There was going to be a heavy price paid for last week's embarrassment. Round 1 showed the future of the day. Sunny_OR and Qujo_wi bid and made 6 clubs on the first hand. Then HappyEasterDog and Steveburdette made 6 spades followed by another slam of 6 clubs. The first round ended in a lopsided 7-1 lead for the dogs. Sunny_OR pointed a paw to the preponderance of pooch points and proclaimed "The powerful puppies are pulverizing puny purrers". Yup, that about summed it up. Round 2 went no better. The cats did manage to take 2 out of the 8 in this round though but trailed by a score of 13 to 3 going into round 3. Rzzjohn reported to the observers, "It's a dogslide". Others offered their observations: "Catatonic Cats" said one, "Catastrophic" chimed another, still another added "Cataclysmic". Yes friends, it looked bleak for the cats they appeared headed for the "Catacombs". But wait, the "intimidators" (Golfnldy and Acastofmany) started the next round by making 7 clubs doubled and redoubled. Then Bobmt and Lalkrsfan1 bid and made 6 spades for the cats. Were they coming back? Was the miracle about to happen again? Not a chance. Macmarine and Lorainew stormed back to overcome the Bobmt/Lalkrsfan slam and the Brats (Bratpuppy_Rover and Bratpuppy_Max) bid and made 6 NoTrump to seal another dog win. Cats from all over started calling for first aid from Feldenkitty. To no avail, as she and partner Pom_Two were busy fighting of the snarling Pzzpll and Rzzjohn. The dogs won five of the 8 matches in the third round for a final score of dogs 23 cats 9. As they swept the alley I couldn't help notice they had enough cat fur to make a mattress. The dogs hurried to the far end to hang the victory banner. Someone put on an old Elvis recording of "Hound Dog". From deep in the dark recesses of the garbage cans and old boxes we heard someone spit out "Just wait till our friends get back from Easter Vacation, you'll be sorry."
