Congratulations Proud Parents

The alley was stunned today by news of the huge CAT. An impending birth explained the defection of the one time leader of the CATS. Doghugo announced that in the near future we could look forward to the patter of little paws. Proud father Kennel_HA2 was surprised to find out that there could be as many as 36 little paws (that's 9 sets for those without a calculator). Although all were happy for the couple, there was a hush on the CAT's side of the alley while a moment of silence was observed in recognition that the beloved CAT was to become a permanent resident on the DOGS side. Could this covert movement back and forth in the alley be signaling a breakdown in the loyalty of the sides? Could this be the prelude for invasion of the alley by yet another group of competitors? As the nice weather approaches, maybe some of the CATS will choose chasing mice in the beautiful sunshine to fighting over a dark and damp alley. Some DOGS could leave to go to the beach on a Saturday where they can play in water not left over from a leaky gutter pipe. Attendance was way off this week and a lot of strange animals were lurking near the restaurant with a hungry look in their eye. We will have to wait and see if a challenge is made for alley supremacy.

Yahoo was doing their best to stop the traditional Saturday battle. They had closed off completely the opening at the far end of the alley. The street department was putting in more improvements and CATS and DOGS coming from that side of town couldn't get into the alley. In the middle of the first round their jackhammers vibrated so violently over half the tables were knocked over. CATS and DOGS alike were knocked out of the alley. Orla, who was posing as a CAT, was knocked backwards off the fence and landed on the other side. We could hear her shouting "I've fallen and I can't get up" - "don't start without me". We waited for everyone to get back, but alas, some of our friends never made it back. Some of the kibitzers managed to hang on to the fire escape and not get knocked off so they filled in where needed. Karyn_au couldn't jump in because she just woke up (but please don't tell anybody). One table set up in an old refrigerator box was untouched. Macmarine and Lorainew were happily playing Xbrorsen and Debb_26ca. They were shocked when we told them what had happened. The first round was declared a draw and we went on to the second and third unscathed. All of these repairs around the alley and the new paint on some of the old buildings was just too much for the CATS to overcome. The battle was won by a lopsided score of DOGS 25 - CATS 15. The DOGS banner was proudly hung and as the cheers died down, a lone CAT was heard to say " Smilodonz, you there?"

If you can spare the time, take a walk in Yahoo Alley.
