Happy Birthday Sadie
Sadie celebrated her birthday today by being part of a real comeback. In one of the most exciting matches in memory, Sadie along with the rest of the DOGS came from behind to win the day. The DOGS barking for revenge for the defeat they suffered last week were first to fill the alley. For a while we thought the CATS were still out celebrating as they were slow to arrive. They may have arrived slowly, but the CATS were taking no nonsense from a bunch of howling hounds. They scratched first and hard in the first round. True to CAT tradition they were off to a quick start and an 8 to 5 lead.
The middle round was absolutely wonderful. We were on the edge of our seats as the score tightened. First the CATS led by 4 then 5. Then suddenly it was 3 then 2 then 1. With one table still out, the score was CATS 13 DOGS 12. Two unbeaten pairs were facing off on the last table. RedRover/Opensesamenow for the CATS and Jean/Dutchie for the DOGS. At the end of the 8th hand the score was an even tie. The first in the history of Social Ryder. Both teams received a point and we went to the third and final round with the cats leading 14 to 13.
The final round featured 4 full tables of unbeaten pairs facing each other. Something was about to give. Again the CATS jumped out to widen the lead. It was looking like a CAT win with half the tables in. Bit by bit the DOGS started reeling the CATS back in. Closer and closer they crept. Finally with one table to go the score was CATS 26 DOGS 25. The last table would be worth 2 points so it was still anybody's match. CCWaxman/Glossit became DOG stars as they snatched the final points giving the DOGS the victory by a score of 27 to 26.
