15 tables today - another record. More and more new faces and more and more new friends. Everything started out quietly. A CAT strolled down the alley and sat near the garbage cans. The Big DOG came in looking for a bone. One Pfffftt here and a growl there and the call went out. They brought the fight to our lounge and although it was already packed with the overflow of Social 1, they managed to dominate the room. Challenge after challenge went out and each was accepted and returned just as fast. A coin toss to see who opened the tables was won by the CATS.

First scratch went to the CATS team of newcomers IMDJ1/Relboc_r. Round 1 ended with the DOGS leading 8-7. The CATS fought back in round 2 and took the lead when it was reported that CATS Fonee/Rabbit were kicking butts (it was pointed out that they did this nicely). Round 2 ended with the score tied 15 - 15.

As the pairings were being made for the final and deciding round, the Gremlins struck. Sliding silently into the program I had written to try and calm down these awful battles, the nasty beasts threw names all over the place. There was no longer any organization to the pairings. CATS were matched against CATS and DOGS against DOGS. Problems came up faster than we could fix them so we finally said "just find someone who isn't playing and play them". So much for computer science. A win was reported for the CATS - but wait - a loss for the CATS on the same match!!! Good Grief! Luckily the DOGS did no better in their DOG Vs DOG match. It came down to the final table. The score was 29 to 29 with CATS Jean/Dutchie fighting Pflydbob/Happy (sub BillsGirl). At last it was over, the DOGS winning the final table.

Yes, the DOGS were victorious, but it was a hollow victory. Without the help of the Gremlins, who knows? We'll have to see what happens next week - same time - same alley.
