Dear friends,
I received this very sad news this morning..... .. I don't know what to say.
But I wanted to let all of you know. We have lost another close friend.
Rich / ardee
Dear Richard
I am very sorry to have tell you that Peter died early yesterday morning. I am not sure if you know him by name or by his playing ID which is "hedgehog 1924"
As his executor I found amongst his papers a note asking that you be contacted as soon as possible and to ask if you would be kind enough to contact his other friends who would be known to you. I know that Peter had many friends through the web in many parts of the world. I am not sure, therefore, whereabouts you are situated. Peter's funeral will take place in Ruislip, Middlesex probably next week. Would you like me to let you have the details when known?
I had known Peter for many years and he will be sadly missed by many from our local church where, for probably some twenty years, he was our treasurer. He was virtually housebound in latter years and following the death of Noreen, his wife, I know that he really appreciated the companionship - albeit at arms length - that he got from his Friends on the web.
Kind regards
Colin Frost

He will be greatly missed at the yahoo Ryder tournaments where he played most of the time. But, now I know he will always have "slam hands" forever!

Oh, how sad it is to receive this news; I first met Pete
before he joined Saturday Social Ryder in the Social 1
lounge where he played as petem 1924, enjoyed partnering
with him, and told him about Social Ryders. We all knew
Pete has been quite ill lately, so this comes as no surprise;
nevertheless, we have all lost a good friend, a good TD, a
good player/partner/ opponent, and a good man.
I'm so glad you played with him over the weekend, RD. I will
miss him dearly. When he arrived in the lounge, early as
always, only Rocky (rsquirrel) and I were there I believe, and
he told us he wasn't feeling well and didn't know if he'd be
able to make the full 3 rounds.
I'm sure Ralph will add him to "Our Memorial" at Max's Alley
Social Ryder where we can all pay tribute/our respects and,
perhaps, send it, once complete, along to his executor rather
than bombard him with individual emails from total strangers.
Any other thoughts? Mine's just a suggestion.

A true gentleman and a great player. Will be sadly missed not only by myself but I'm sure the group. May all his hands be a slam at least. |

The Alley is a sad place today hearing about the death of our dear
friend Peter. What a gentleman and how thoughtful of him to make sure
that Ardee was notified so that he could let us know.
He has certainly added much to Alley life since Micki introduced him
to us many years ago. He was beloved by us all and will be sadly
missed. I guess I hadn't realised just how many years had slipped by
and how frail our hedgehog had become.
I have visited Ruislip many times as it isn't far from my hometown. |

What can one say to this awful news. We have all lost a very dear friend. I know Pete is reading this from beyond. Pete. We will miss you more than words can ever express.

So glad I played as his partner last week (Wednesday?) . He was the sharpest I've seen him that night. Yes, the first bid he played and made he said, "First time today," after we congratulated him. Then, when we VERY BADLY set our opponents a hand or two later for the second time, our opponent said, "Second time tonight!" It was great. I will miss Peter very much. |

I am so sad to hear the bad news as I have played some with him recently and
he was a good player. At times he lost his confidence in playing and said
he always gets bad cards. I kept telling him we were going to get good cards
tonight and several times we got 3 peats. That made him feel good. Again I
am very sorry to hear he is gone and will be greatly missed. Lets all say a
prayer for him as he went to meet his maker, friends and family. May God
bless he and his family as now he is at peace with his maker. |

We love you Pete. |

We will all miss "one of our own". I played with him last week and we did 2/3 and he was quiet happy.....I commented how fast he played that night. I would see his light on during the day and I would chat a little with him....he told me he set his alarm clock to play in the Ryders, due to time difference. Yes, he was a gentleman... but told It like it was....haha |

Pete,
You are dearly missed. You have the blessing of seeing the glorious face
of our Lord. Watch over us and know that you are in our thoughts.

Indeed this is very sad news.
Susan had the pleasure of partnering with him recently and enjoyed
every minute.
Pete was a wonderful player, a great TD, a challenging opponent
where I always needed my A+ game to compete.
A deep sadness pervades our home as Susan & I feel the depth of our
sorrow over Pete's passing. This pain is very fresh because we were
just playing with him this past Sunday night. He will be sorely
missed.
It was very thoughtful of him to include in his papers instructions
to contact one of us - a lesson all of us must take from his passing.
Maybe Colin can supply RD a photo of Pete to be included our the
Alley Tribute page (if not, I have several cute photos of my son's
hedgehog - she was a curious lass).
God bless all of you,
Susan & Rick

Such heavy news is lightened more than a little knowing Pete aka
Hedgehog will now light up that Heavenly Ryder Tourney with many who
have preceded him. Robinbird, Happily_ever_ after, Openesesamenow,
Drannalee, KHutton, Apache, and others - know that your ranks have
been increased by one prickly number but with immeasurable divinity
and saintliness. |

This comes as a very big shock to me as I didn't know
of Peter's illness.. With tears and heavy heart I pray
that he will be much more comfortable playing with all
that have passed on before at that beautiful bridge
table in the sky.. Many slams to you my friend..
The clock of life is wound but once.
And no man has the power
To tell just when the hands will stop.
At late or early hour.
Now is the only time you own.
Live, love, toil with a will
Place no faith in time
For the clock may soon be still.
You just never know........
Hugs

We will all miss Pete ...... he was one heck of a bridge player and gentleman and spread himself around so everyone could enjoy his company ... I am sure he will do the same in heaven .. he will be in good company following others from our ranks that have gone to the peaceful and wonderful place in the sky
Suzi and I pass on our condolences to his family and all his close friends

This was such shocking news, We take each life for granted, not ever thinking it could end so quickly. Bridgebuff says it so well-Pete will be welcomed with open arms in a better place, and great bridge We who are left behind are so sad. He was a fine English gentleman, I always enjoyed playing with him.
I have been lax to Max’s Alley cause of my own problems, but today I am having rotor cuff surgery and hope it fixes all.:) I do keep up with all the scores and tidbits.
If the next gathering is in Houston, I can go visit my son and help out. Ot Jr and I once talked about it being in Montana.
I just want to tell you all how special you all are, and I am blessed to have you for Bridge friends.
At Christmas my youngest grand daughter was so excited about Jesus birthday and she announced_ Just look at all the party favors he brought us under the tree. Hugs to all of you

A Ryder Memorial For Pete |

An emotion-filled night of bridge as we learned of the death of Pete. It
was suggested and approved that we would play this tourney in his memory.
We began with a moment of silence and then shared memories of playing with
and or against Pete. So many people shared so many memories.
It is not common (at least for me) to shed tears for someone I have not
met (in person). Upon arriving home yesterday, I read the email that
Richard/ardee sent to us about Pete's passing. Many tears were shed and
much respect was paid to our friend.
I thank each of you for sharing your memories of Pete with the rest of us.
Many of you knew him much better than some of us and your stories were
greatly appreciated.
Torts won the tourney with a final score of 13 - 11.
One slam was reported: ardee/rjdeg 6NT round 1
Once again we were saved by subs: Jimkat and Mimi
We had a new player: Arnela
May we respect each other as though it will be the last time we meet.
Peace of Christ,
Wayne/jrallwyn

Hi Peter
When there was talk about you in the ryder community, I went to Max's
Alley to read what you were about
Such beautiful things your friends wrote there about you - made me cry
and made me remember something my father told me in his last days...
All that really matters in life, is the memories we leave behind and the
lives that we have touched
Hedgehog - I regret I never had the opportunity and honour to be in your
company
