The donkey and mule culture of the Island of Hydra, Greece

For the past ten years I have been documenting the mule and donkey culture of the Island of Hydra, Greece. Hydra is a particularly special place, because the majority of land transportation is done by mules and donkeys. In 2014 I set about photographing the work of the island’s donkey owners and muleteers. Those photographs, together with my accompanying field notes, will be published as a chapter of the forthcoming book.

 

On this present website we have only limited bandwidth. Since my article contains mainly photographs, it cannot be published here, but will be published in the printed volume.
