The droids have come to take away yet another free soul. They cage him and force a contradiction down his throat.........but he spits it in their faces. He is pushed back into a social class but he still swims against the mainstream. No matter how strong the current he moves onward! Alone at first but as time passes others follow. The few individuals with similar beliefs hold their ground. Then society puts a label on them and they wear it like a flag. Saluting every other with one finger. Only to cause a scene to the intolerant and ignorant. The droids return with closed eyes and night sticks. But this time there are more free minds to fight against them. The army seems small but in truth they will one day be the victor. For they are only rebels now, the people who stand up for themselves against all odds. The people who fight for what is right and just. The only question that must be asked is......Are you one of them? Do you stray from the norm and do what you enjoy? Do you make decisions for yourself and take deserved consequences? Do you stand for justice? Are you the individual that the world seems to look down on?
Long before the Sex Pistols and punk rock, these type of people were called Punks. This label was the perfect name for them. It was supposed to be a put down of some sort, like a racial slur or something. So these people took pride in being called a minority, just to show the droids that they understood how ignorant society was. It had such a large affect on people that it almost became a trend but obviously can't because it would be such a large contradiction. Now there are people who have organized musical groups, political zines, and other expressive ways to show the world that they too are punks. There are many who try to follow in the foot steps of these people but still are part of a large conformist establishment. They don't understand and think they are making a stand when they are actually making a very large ass outta themselves. These people are usually called "posers." Nowadays there are fewer and fewer true punks and more and more posers which is bad yet good at the same time. The posers make it acceptable to be punk and make less strain on true punks. Yet at the same time they make punks seem weak and trendy. They contradict everything people stand for and it makes potential punks turn away. So far it hasn't affected anyone yet because punks are still a minority. Anywho the point I kinda am trying to get across is that punk is really about standing up for what is right and not being a part of anything that......well not being a part of anything just either supporting it or not. Some say you can't be anti-establishment and be punk at the same time, but punk is not an establishment or a group of any kind. Punk is a label given to people. Like race and ethnicity. They are just a way to catagorize people. Which isn't a good thing but it's the way the world is, and it's up to us to make a change. So the next time you see some guy with combat boots, bondage pants, suspenders and a big blue mohawk, give him a big loud Oi! Or if you see some chick with knee high boots, a plaid skirt with saftey pins in it and big pogo spikes give her a big Oi! If you see any individual at all, just give 'em a shout to let them know that they aren't alone in this battle for true freedom and happiness.
