About the Site

I've been more or less addicted to the internet and computers from an early age, but I prefer to call it "nurtured" from a young age instead. I remember using AIM, going on the Backstreet Boys website, going on Buffy and Angel fanfiction, the Josh Hartnett forum ... all of these were my first exposure to the many aspects of the internet.
This site was created on the 3rd of June 2002 and was set up to rival my friends' site, Becky, Fo and Margot. It was also designed to compliment
Guy Pearce Multimedia the fansite which is now sadly closed. Also, I believed that more people would come to see my graphics if I had a site about someone famous, other than myself of course.
I'd always been thinking about setting up a website, I just didn't know what to put on it. It's only after I set up the Guy Pearce site I decided to put up some of my own work too, thus evolving from just a pathetic page built using PageBuilder showing a couple of quiz links and dollz to the wonder we now call ... Snowling. The Site. Ooooh yes.

So dude, why did you just call it Snowling instead of giving it a proper name?
I was planning to give it a name, something strawberry related as I like strawberries - I was going for Shimmery Strawberries, Sparkling Strawberries, Strawberry Kisses, Strawberry Sounds etc etc but then I released I would be cursed forever with strawberry related layouts. In the end I just stuck with Snowling, which I believe to be unique enough, and give it different "versions" - right now it's Version Monochrome Berries. Following this will be another strawberry version, then a green version, and who knows, maybe strawberries. I like strawberries. Yum yum.

Love this site so much? Why not sign my guestbook? You know you want to ...

Past Layouts

Version 1: June 2002 to January 2003
Originally this section consisted of only a brief bio, dollz, links to my essays and fanfiction, and a display of all the quizzes I'd ever done. Sadly, I forgot to take a screenshot of it all at the time but managed to find it saved under "temporarypreviewfile" so excuse the red X's, cause most of the pics have been deleted by now:

Yes, I did get a little too overexcited with the idea of BRUSHES. Lyrics [if you can see them] are from Michelle Branch's "Goodbye to You". Beautiful song.

Version 2 Snowling: February to April 2003

I was quite pleased with my grid pattern at the back, as I had an obsession with grids at the time, and I just called it Snowling cause it shows all my interests. And I had no imagination. Images from theobfiles.com, quizilla.com, guypearce.net and imdb.com.

Version Cotton Candy: April to August 2003

I was going through an exciting pink phase, with my matching sig and layout, and I especially liked this picture cause it portrayed Kirsten Dunst looking very un-Kirsten Dunst like and more go-go Sixties girl. I named it cotton candy cause I always preferred that name, rather than candy floss which sounds like candy flavoured dental floss, but hey, that's a pretty good idea too ... Image from kirstendunst.org.

Version Full Bloom: August to September 2003

Originally made in July, but didn't have enough time to put it up for the start of the summer holidays, so up it came in mid-August. Inspired by the summer [durrrr] and the fact that Mandy Moore is my hair idol. I actually really really loved this layout, it was so simple and clean and WHITE. *sigh*. Had a nice matching sig too. Image from shockyourmind.org, flowers from gettyimages.com.

Version Gothic Rock: September to October 2003

Heavily inspired by my love for Evanescence and Linkin Park at the time, hence the dark graffiti look! A little too dark for my liking, but this was the layout I had when I won the Totally Perfect Award so maybe some people liked it! Also had a matching sig and the first of my layouts to have a coloured background - oooh. Features Charlie from Busted, image from busted-rock.com.

Version Orange Star Scribble: October 2003 to December 2003

I was having a bit of an ORANGE craze there - at the moment I'm in a sort of green phase but anyways yes, orange. What the heck it matched the background that the pictures were on so why not? I liked the scribbly effect too, nicked the idea off another site that was nominated for a Totally Perfect award, can't remember which one. And I like stars. The links are also done in my own handwriting thanks to my Wacom tablet. Had a matching sig too. Features the All-American Rejects [who I eventually saw in November], images from mtv.com.

Version Sleepy Blue: Early December 2003

Would you believe it, I actually made this layout back in August when I still loved Busted and couldn't get enough of them. Aaah. Then I discovered All-American Rejects. Oops. The white stripes [tee-hee] is meant to blend in with the white body background colour cause I couldn't be arsed to make it a transparent gif - too much effort. I really did love this picture of Charlie at the time, but now ... meh. Still seems kinda Christmassy. Had a couple of matching sigs which I used to death when I was experimenting with transparency. This layout only graced the main page as I was too lazy to change the other pages. Image from busted-rock.com.

Version Hiatus 2003: Late December 2003 to January 2004

Random I know. How many sites would put up a hiatus version? My site of course! I just like the hiatus image I made. Tis nice, no? Features a certain Mr Casablancas of the Strokes who will surely feature in future layouts, image from thestrokes.com.

Version Monochrome Berries: January to February 2004

Inspired by my friend's DT project [a black and white circular CD rack if you want to know], featuring a goddamn awful lot of strawberries [from gettyimages.com] and Joey Yung [image from http://www.joeygalaxy.phimviet.com]. The first of my iframes layouts and certainly not the last. Ho ho.

Version Classic Berries: February to March 2004

Put up in time for Valentine's Day, this diary features the very British Keira Knightley [image from http://www.exquisite-keira.com] and also featuring strawberries yet again. First layout to use little icons instead of text for navigation [for brushes see below]. This layout was kinda too serious and grown-up for me, but I liked it anyways.

Version Last Song: March to May 2004

Made this layout during my All-American Rejects craze [ah when will they release some new material?? Come back!] sometime last November-ish [well it was before my Strokes craze if that helps!] Pretty simple layout, very green too. Mmm Tyson. I really liked my enter sign too, I thought that was mighty purdy and innovative. Screencaps from speakslowly.net [which has now closed ... *sniffs*]

Version Last Nite: May 2004 to July 2004

Following the trend of using video screencaps and the unintentional trend of the use of the word "last", this version featured my favourite band [well when I made it] The Strokes, images from www.thestrokesfan.com. Kinda plain and boring, but I didn't really had much inspiration. Oh well it served it's purpose for about 2 months, that's all that can be said.

Version Hiatus: July 2004
My second hiatus, featuring the lovely Robert Schwartzman/Carmine, image from www.hidden-tears.org/robert. Took me a long time to make the images fit into the brush, but I'm rather pleased with the results. Possible idea for a future layout? Who knows, watch this space ...
