| How technology affects our life. Nowadays technology is all around us, theres no escape, like helpless sheep in the woods surrounded by a starving wolf pack. Theres no stopping it, soon your brain is going to be served at a large and vast banquet chez la technology. First there were sheep, now we are the lambs surrounded by the wolf pack of technology. Internet, hi-fis, cell-phones, cable television with 363 channels, feeding you brain until indigestion so it will never think again while you live, better yet, feeding from your brain. The Big Brother isnt watching you, its distracting you, distracting you from everything in your surroundings. YOU are watching Big Brother. The people next door have their TVs volume too high, either that or Jack the Ripper is slaughtering the whole family. People these days are silence-phobic, technology is their ally. Either Black Sabbath are having a concert in the van stopped next to me in traffic or the guys stereo is too high. Yes, technology can be a good thing, but not for long. Internet, hackers, viruses. Television, mind numbing. Cars, pollution. Insanity. Paranoia. We used to see kids playing in parks, nowadays youll only see them there if they have a laptop. The nerd era. These people are reality-phobic. Kids used to sneak out of the house to go to parties, or meet their girlfriend, now they sneak to the computer room. All nighters playing Counter-Strike. The nerd era. Either world war 3 has broken up last night or the kid next door was having fun in the computer til the break of dawn. Technology is infecting every single living soul; most of us are now dependent. Reality-phobic. We all are in some way, either TV, or Hi-Fi, MP3, Internet, VCR, DVD, electronic controlled shoes that adapt to the surface you are walking on with a micro-processor and half a million sensors? What are we coming to? Francisco Lobo Cae2 |
