| A Christmas Tale In War Time London. December 24th 1940. World War II had arrived to Great Britain and the German airplanes could be heard anywhere in the capital. Fear ruled many hearts, but it wouldnt make the Christmas spirit disappear Some families were devastated due to the loss of loved ones in distant battles. Some were so frightened of dying or saying goodbye forever to their close friends and relatives they could hardly speak. Most of them didnt even remember it was Christmas Eve However, in the North Pole, Santa was making sure that not even war would stop him from doing his job. That Christmas, London was in fact a problem, but Santa had already thought it over and come up with an intelligent plan. Although his journey wouldnt be as traditional, it would make many children and hopeless adults happy. The time had come for the old man to leave. He got up from his couch, where he was checking his famous list for the last time, and headed for his bedroom. Then, he put his green suit on, so he wouldnt be that different from all the soldiers in the British capital. Having kissed his wife, Santa left for the big warehouse where the leprechauns and the bag with all the gifts waited. That night, he wouldnt be travelling on his sleigh with his faithful reindeer. Instead, he would fly an airplane similar to the ones in the London sky and small enough to land on most rooftops. He had been taking flying lessons for months, but that didnt stop him from feeling a little nervous. After all, he would have to face war by himself, in a machine he didnt know that well. Having noticed Santas unease, the leprechauns decided to cast a spell on the plane. It would come to life and keep the kind gentleman in the green suit company . Relieved, Santa thanked his trustful helpers and took off in his new assistant. A few minutes later, the supersonic jet was in London. In a couple of hours, as usual, Santa visited every home and gave away some special presents: gifts filled with joy and hope that, for a moment, would make those families feel better. Then, he went back home to prepare for another flight, this time to another country. The airplane took care of the flight details so that Santa could rest for a while. He felt tired but extremely proud. Once more, this sweet old man had not let down those who still believe in the magic of Christmas. Ana Maria, CAE2 - Fridays |
