Combination Powers

These are powers which requre the use of multiple abilities, which the elf must have BEFORE they can use this new power.

Weather Shaping
This power requires three distinct powers first: Fire Starting, Water Shaping, and Levitation. In any ability combination, they can be used together at a new level to actually control the weather in a small area around them. Most Weather Shapers fly into the clouds and make them rain, but some of them prefer to 'conduct' like a musician from on the ground. The area they can control strongly depends on the kind of weather that is already there. They can stir up a small squall of rain on a lightly-cloudy day, summon some small clouds for shade on a clear day, cause fog and mist at will, or they can try to calm a heavy rainstorm to a lighter level. Only very few weather shapers have ever gotten good enough to control a whole storm, and you just don't want to mess with them!

Weather Sensing is a weaker version which uses either only two of the above three, or changes one of them out for a different power, like Far Sending. A far sending weather senser can detect weather patterns for hundreds of miles around them, but they cannot control the weather no matter how hard they try.

Mind Healing
The abilities of Healing and Deep Sensing are required for this power to work. With it, the healer can go deep into mental problems their patient might have, and try to fix them somehow. These healers are more like psychologists on earth, but they can look directly into the memories and feelings of their patients! Sometimes this can be very traumatic, so it is a dangerous power to use at all. Choosing a patient carefully is important. The Mind Healer should never attempt to help someone this way without trying more normal ways first, because there is always a chance that the crazy or traumatized elf will cause something to go wrong in the Healer's mind instead of being healed!

Deep Hurting is a power which very few elves can get away with using. It is exactly the opposite of the above, using Anti-Healing instead of Healing, to cause an imagined fear, or trauma, to appear in the mind of the subject. It can take an event and make the elf think of it very differently than they should (say a simple hunt, but the Deep Hurter is able to make the elf afraid to use their bow, or think that they did not do the right thing, or even that their prey was something else) or convince them of something that did not happen at all. This power is not used by nice people, most of the time.

Self Healing
This is a combination of Self Shaping and weak Healing ability. With it, the user is able to heal only their own wounds, but not other people's. It is a good way for someone to keep themself healthy, if they are in a hard terrain or have been injured and cannot get to a normal healer. Even the smallest amount of healing ability combined with self shaping will make this power possible, at a much higher level than normal healing. Since the person is doing it on themself, they cannot really screw up the healing.

Soul Sear
Using Fire starting and either Sending or Deep Sending, the elf can cause a horrid blast of painful burning that seems to envelop the victim and causes them a combination of mental and physical anguish. Used long enough, the power will actually burn the victim from the inside out, but used typically, it effectively 'trains' them to do certain things (or not to do certain things, whichever). It is a particularly cruel power, but it was first used only in self-defense.

Mood Song
This odd combination of Coersion and Sound Shape can help alter the mood around a group of people. It can affect anyone within hearing or sending distance. With this power an elf could calm a riot of angry hunters, or create a mood of warmth and healing, or even cause a pair (or a larger number) of people to become enamored of one another...

Mental Illusions
Using Mind Snare and simple Sending, some elves have a lot of practice making people think they are seeing or hearing things they really aren't, but they aren't keeping them in a state of coma to do it. With typical Mind Snare, the subject falls into a kind of trance, but with a mental illusion going, everyone around might be affected. Depending on how strong the Illusionist is, and how smart the people are around them, they could convince a whole group of people they just saw something go by, or that they look different from their true appearance without having to shapeshift. This can only work on a certain number of people at one time, and definitely is more difficult to do when the subjects are very smart or have a very strong mental ability themselves.

Teleportation
That's right, there are elves who can teleport! The first were actually a pair of sisters, each with part of the power. When they put their Far Sending and Levitation powers together, along with Finding and perhaps some other hidden abilities, they wound up actually disappearing from sight and reappearing some miles away. Since then other people have this power as a unique, not a combined, ability.

Leapfrog
This somewhat odd power allows an elf to teleport directly to their bond animal, within one-half mile radius. However, it is such an unusual power that it will not be discovered by the elf unless they must be apart from their bond animal, and find themself in need. Alternately, this could teleport the bond animal to the elf's side.

There are many other power combinations, try them out.

Unique Powers

Some Elves have a power which none other has. A few of them are listed her to give an idea of what else is out there.

Creation
This ability is unique to an elfess named RedHair. She is a traveler and along her way she learned of her ability to actually create objects and even living things, out of nothing but magic. Lots of magic. It requires a lot of people to help her, and she can focus their magic powers into a kind of "wish". If she is with a large number of flying elves, she might create a flying animal. If there are a lot of stone shapers, it might be a pure metal or rock object, or an animal which lives among rocks or burrows in the ground. She most often is called upon by Holts to create a "guardian" for some purpose. She also creates individual people's bond animals. Her own critter is of her magical power, her small fox like creature appeared overnight when she wished very hard for a bond animal. She created a pair of horse-sized crickets for someone to ride a great distance across the central plains. Red often does this magic at a seasonal festival, or a howl. She is often the guest of honor, and her creations still serve their purposes around the world.

Summoning
One strange side effect of Red's magic was when she used it in proximity to the Deer Folk, Hive and Ice Traders of the Startree Holt up north. When she was asked to create a guardian for this unique area, a huge number of very different people came to help. What happened was she summoned a person, instead of an animal! Portal was once a nice normal Earth guy, and here he found himself sitting naked and elfin among a bunch of strangers! He took it in stride. When people realized that he was pulling things out of thin air, they took notice. Portal actually creates small hand-sized portals very similar to those found in the Hall of Portals, which he uses to grab a bag of chips, a lawn chair, whatever he would like. He has not found limits yet... Portal also can make electric things work, though there are other elves with specific Electric powers too.

Language Comprehension
There are only a few languages spoken on the Otherforest. The elves themselves only speak one universal language, and it is no Earthly sort. But Ice Traders and the Hive, the Avi and the Urai and everything else speaks in its own unique tongue. There are a small number of elves who can simply understand and speak (sometimes with difficulty) any language they encounter.

Transcription/Animate Map
Talon in Dare's Valley has this ability. She uses it to create moving, almost animated pictures out of simple line drawings. She is an excellent map maker, since she is bonded to a giant bird, she can fly overhead and make accurate maps, but then she takes her magic and infuses the map page itself with a bit of it. The next person (any person) who looks at the map will be able to see just exactly what Talon saw when she was where the map leads. So if she flew over a herd of deer or grazers, that map will show their migration. She is also able to perfectly re-do maps from other people.

Read Otherworldly Magic
There are a small handful of elves who have ever even seen other magic than their own innate kinds. Book magic exists, outside of the Otherforest, and on occasion it has been brought there. Books have been left behind. Along with Talon, one of the few people who knows how to translate and actually read these spells is Kestrel in the Coast. He is able to look through a spell book and know what the spell does, and how to use it. This rather surprised a few people who didn't know elves could do such things.
