Chapter 5

"That was a good movie," Justin said, stretching.
"I know...you wanna go out and play basketball?" It was about ten,
Justin shrugged. "Sure-you play?"
"Sometimes," Meghan replied. "Come on."
They went out back to her basketball court. Meghan picked up a ball and began bouncing it. She shot it and made a perfect basket.
"Let's play some one on one," Justin challenged.
"You're on-I'm gonna kick your *butt*," Meghan said.
"Try me, Megs," Justin replied.
Half an hour later, the score was twenty to fifteen-in Meghan's favor.
"Do you wanna stop playing now, or do you wanna lose by even more?" Meghan asked, dribbling the ball.
"I think that's it for me, Megs," Justin said as she shot the ball again. It swished through the basket and rolled onto the grass. When Meghan returned to the court with the ball, Justin was gone.
"Justin?" Meghan called, looking around.
Justin jumped out of the bushes and wrapped his arms around Meghan's waist from behind. She shrieked and dropped the ball as Justin whispered in her ear, "Boo."
"Oh my *gosh*, Justin! You scared the crap out of me!" Meghan exclaimed, her heart beating rapidly.
Justin laughed. "Sorry, but I couldn't pass up a chance to scare you." He took her hand and led her to the grass where they lay down and watched the stars. "You're an awesome player Megs...why haven't you tried out for the team? You could easily make captain."
Meghan shrugged. "I don't know...I guess I just know the rest of the team would hate me."
"You should try out this year," Justin said.
"Maybe I will...oh hey look! A shooting star!" Meghan exclaimed. "Make a wish."
"Okay." Justin shut his eyes and concentrated, mustering up all his courage. "Megs, I have something to tell you."
"What is it?"
"I-I like you Megs."
Meghan's heart skipped a beat. "What?"
"I mean, I like you more than I've ever liked anyone before in my life. It's weird-in a good way. It's like I *need* you-kinda like a soulmate thing, you know?"
Meghan nodded. "Yeah."
"I don't really know what this is...it's scary, but it feels so good, so right when I'm with you..."
"It's intense," Meghan whispered. "It's this feeling like I'm complete when I'm with you...like I need you with me all the time..."
"That's it...you feel it too?" Justin asked.
Meghan nodded. "Yeah. I do. It's overwhelming."
"No kidding," Justin agreed. "So what now?"
"We have to take it slow," Meghan said. "It's hard for me to trust anyone anymore, especially with what happened in my past relationships...it's not that I don't trust you cuz I *do*-more than anyone-but I just need to ease back into things..."
"Make sure this is real... I understand."
"You do?"
"Yeah-I have to make sure this is real too," Justin said. "Did you think you were the only one who's been hurt?"
"No, but I thought you were the invincible Justin Timberlake-"
"Hey, I've got my soft spots too," Justin said.
"And one of them would be..."
"You."
