A few minutes after JC and Carmel had returned to the table, the waiter came by with the food. He looked at Serena for a minute, as if trying to place her face.
"Serena?" the waiter asked. "Serena Tyler?"
Serena's mouth dropped open. "Bryce? Oh my gosh!"
"I never thought I'd see you again," the waiter, Bryce said.
"Same here. Geez, it's been forever!" Serena exclaimed.
"So I hear you're on Mad TV now," Bryce said. "With Carmel."
Serena nodded. "Yeah, we are. So what are you up to?"
"Workin my way up the extreme sport ladder-mostly BMXing, but I do some skateboarding and snowboarding," Bryce said.
"Cool," Serena replied.
"Well, it was nice talking to you again, Serena-maybe we can get together sometime," Bryce said,
"We're on our way to that new club after we're done here." Serena bit her lip. "Maybe..."
"I could stop by after I'm done here," Bryce said,
"That'd be cool." Serena watched Bryce's retreating back.
"Ooohhh, Serena," Chris sang.
"Someone's got a crush on Serena," Justin sang like a little kid.
"Shut up!" Serena exclaimed.
"Let's eat!" Joey yelled.
After dinner, Carmel was once again smushed next to JC, but she didn't mind as much as she had earlier. Ever since he had apologized earlier that night, she had begun to think JC actually had a heart.
"Wow, looks like business is booming tonight," Justin said as he pulled into the crowded parking lot.
"It *is* the grand opening of the club, Justin," JC replied.
"He's got you there," Chris said as they drove around the parking lot trying to find a space.
"There's one!" Lance exclaimed.
Justin slammed on the brakes.
"Oh sorry-compact car space."
"Over there!" Chris shouted and Justin slammed on the brakes again. "Never mind-it's reserved for a treed."
"Let's actually find a space so we'll have whiplash for a good cause," Serena said.
"There's one!" Joey yelled.
Justin shook his head. "I am *not* slamming my brakes again."
"No, seriously, Justin..."
"Yeah right."
"Yeah...dude! You just passed it!" Joey exclaimed.
"I did?" Justin slammed on the brakes.
"Too late-someone just took that spot," JC said.
"Over there!" Carmel yelled, pointing to a space several rows away.
"That's ours!" Justin yelled, and they raced to the space at a speed well above the parking lot limit.
"Justin!" Serena screeched. "This is a *parking* lot!"
"And there's one space left in it," Chris said as Justin turned and pulled into the spot, throwing them all to one side of the car.
"And we just took it," Justin said smugly as he got out of the car and waved happily to the people driving by who were angrily giving him the finger.
"What's their problem?" Lance asked innocently as he stepped out of the car.
"It couldn't be that we took *their* space, could it?" Carmel said, getting out next.
JC shook his head. "Nah-there are way too many empty ones for them to park in."
"I know-seriously-look at em," Joey said, stepping out after JC.
"They're all over the place!" Chris exclaimed with a grand sweep of his arm.
Serena just laughed. "Come on, guys. Let's go." |
