We were at the Back To School Dance. I was gazing longingly at Zach over Jesse's shoulder.
"I miss you," Zach mouthed at me.
"I miss you too," I mouthed back, even though we had been apart for only two minutes and 39 seconds, it seened like two and a half days to me.
The song ended and a new slow song came on. Zach made his way across the floor to Jesse and me.
"Hey Jesse you don't mind if I steal Nora for this dance, do you?" Zach asked.
Jesse stepped away from me. "No, not at all."
Zach wrapped me in his strong arms. Audrey smiled at me over Brad's shoulder. I smiled back.
"Is Jesse being okay to you?" Zach asked.
"Yeah, so far," I replied.
"Good. I don't want anything to happen to you," Zach said.
"I know. I'm ginna stick with at least one of you guys all tonight so Jesse ca'nt do anything," I said.
"Good idea. i don't want anything to happen to you because I feel something with you that I've never felt with anyone else before. And Ithink I always will have this feeling when I'm around you because I love you," Zach said.
Those last three words flooded me with joy and warmth all over. "I love you too, Zach."
"I've never EVER in my sixteen years of living said that to any girl before. I've thought it, but I didn't know what I was talking about because this is love," Zach said.
My breath was taken away by the honest sincerity in his eyes and in his voice. "I really *really* wanna kiss you right now-"
"Then go ahead."
"But Jesse is watching us right now, so I can't," I finished.
"Darn," Zach muttered. "I really need a kiss right now."
"So do I," I said. "You'll get it."
The song ended. "I'll be thinking of you-remember that," Zach whispered as Jesse made his way over to us.
"I will-I'll be thinking of you too," I whispered back. |
