The Helmet
If there is one thing i can advise, it's getting a helmet. Even if you dont 'race', but are simply feeling a bit tentative sitting forward, the a brain bucket may be the answer to your prayers! So it might not be the most fashionable thing on the mountain... you dont have to wear it all the time, just the days when you know you will be skiing hard. (but speaking from experience, it's the days i dont wear a helmet that i fall over, [and sometimes hurt myself], whether that's just because i have less self confidence then... i dont know) ... but anyway... if you only follow one piece of advice i say, GET, or at least rent, a helmet!
The Sunnies
Ultra important, ultra cool, and i think, ultra stupid if you're a fast skier! but if you're up for a day of cruisin, then sunnies are a must. What to look for: wearable comfort, UV protection, - remember not to use tissues or t-shirts to wipe your sunnies! Oakley - generally good peripheral vision, but only large frames. good wind protection, and recognition factor! Arnette - "swinger" combines wire injected arms and a lightweight polycarbonate lens good for skiing, also cheap! Smith - "toaster" good for smaller faces, good for all snow conditions, interchangable brown, yellow & orange lenses Briko - "Radar" stilish & sporty, good grippy finish from nosepiece to arms, so wont fall off so easily!
