Poison the Well, American Nightmare, Eighteen Visions
Monday April 1st, 2002- Tremont: Charlotte, NC
So Melina had been talking about us going to see Poison the Well in Charlotte.  I didnt know if she was actually serious. We had just seen them.  But on Easter Sunday around 8 she called me and asked if I wanted to go to Charlotte with her and Cory to go see them.  I said sure.  Monday afternoon, we left Athens around 3.  Charlotte was about 3 hours away and it took us all the time we had to get there.  We had to deal with traffic and accidents and stuff like that. But we got to Charlotte and found Treemont fairly easily. Melina had been there with Janelle a week or two earlier so she knew where to go.  When we got to the door, I was happy to hear that it was only $10 and not $12 like I thought it would be. Now I had enough money to get a shirt.  The lady taking cash looked at my shirt and said, Is this retro t-shirt night?  I was wearing my Michael Jackson shirt. My shirt was definitely the coolest one that I saw all night. Treemont is a pretty cool venue. Its nice and big. Its got a game area and lots of pool tables along with a second smaller stage, a bard, and lots of places for merch. It even had bathrooms, although not as nice as the Masquerade and certainly not as nice as The Cotton Club did.  When we went into the main room, the band on stage was Eighteen Visions. There werent many people there at all, and the crowd was basically just standing there.  They didnt seem to be scene kids either, as much as they appeared to me metalheads. But I think I like metalheads more.  They werent even moving, just standing there. We soon ran into Lacy and her friend Patrick. Lacy is Corys ex girlfriend and Patrick is a friend of hers.  She used to live in Georgia but she recently moved to Virginia with her mom and brother. Her and Patrick drove like 2 hours for the show. We win though cause we drove further!  Anyway, my main interest that night was finding Mr. Hornbrook and getting a picture.  I was doing my best to look out for him.  Then I saw his beautiful face walking in our direction and my heart skipped a beat. Seriously! It did.  I turned to Melina and said. Melina! Its Chris look over there.  She looked over just as he was walking by us and she smiled and we commented on his hotness.  Then I said, Ok lets go get my picture. So I tapped Cory on the shoulder and asked him if he would take the picture for me. He said sure. Melina wouldnt take it for me because Chris is too hot. Haha.  Anyway, my heart was just beating rapidly. The minute I made up my mind to go up to him and get a picture, I got so scared. What the hell was I so worried about? This was just Chris Hornbrook, probably one of the most mellow and chill dudes in the world. Not to mention its not like hes some mega superstar.  Hes just the drummer for a really good hardcore band.  Not even when I met Chino freaking Moreno or Brandon Boyd did I feel so nervous.  But I decided to just suck it up go up to Chris and take my picture. So Cory and I walked over to wear he was standing. Sort of on the left side of the bar.  I called his name a few times but he didnt hear me, so I ended up just tapping him on the shoulder.  It all happened probably within like 1 minute and some change. 2 minutes tops. I just asked him for a picture and Cory took it for me, and then I told him that we had seen them that previous Saturday. It all kinda happened in slow motion. I was so nervous and I felt like a dork, so I didnt say much. Just got the hell out of there. Haha. If only he wasnt so damn hot. But I was SOOO proud of myself that I had gotten a picture.  Now I could enjoy the test of the night and not have to worry about anything else.  After Eighteen Visions, we hung out around the games and Cory, Lacy and Patrick played something.  Then we went outside and hung out.  The next band to play was American Nightmare.  Again the kids were just standing there and not doing anything.  They were alright I guess.  Poison the well was of course the best.  They played pretty much the same set that they played in Atlanta.  Jeff talked a lot to the crowd.  He said that he had just woken up, so I guess he was all rested and in a talkative mood.  Melina, Cory, Lacy, and Patrick all went up to the front but I stayed off to the side. I just dont get into being hot and sweaty at shows anymore.  I didnt want to feel gross afterwards. Anyway, The Wells set was great.  There were a few crowd surfers and stage divers for them, but not many.  After their set, we decided to leave.  I was happy that we had traveled so far and long to see the show.  We went to Waffle House afterwards to eat and then we made our way back home. Fun times.
