| The only reason I really wanted to go to this show was to see silverchair. This was during the time I was pretty much in love with them, and even though there were some other pretty good bands there, I was only interested in seeing them. The funny thing is that I didn't have any money. But somehow, I managed to come up with the $30 I needed to get a ticket. I went to this show with my friend Karen, who isn't a huge music fanatic like me, but she was a fan of some of the bands playing, mostly Sugar Ray and Third Eye Blind. So she picked me up early Saturday morning. She had to drive down from Hampton, GA, where she lived. Karen lived very close to the Speedway so she knew exactly where it was. When we set off on the road, I was praying that we would get there in time to see silverchair who were playing pretty early on in the afternoon. But it wasn't looking good. Traffic was horrible! It was backed up so bad because there were a bunch of people trying to get to the Speedway from the North side of town. Also, we had to stop and get the tickets at Publix. Or so we thought. We stood in line at Publix waiting to buy tickets, only to find out that they were only selling them at the venue. So we hoped back into the car. We had the radio turned to 99x and I was listening to see when silverchair would be playing. But when I heard that they were about to take the stage and we still weren't near the Speedway, my heart just dropped. I wouldn't be seeing them that day, the only band I wanted to see in the first place. I was disappointed, but there was nothing that I could do. When we got there, went through security and got our tickets, Eve 6 had just left the stage. I didn't want to see them anyway. I think the first band we saw was The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Now, because it WAS a speedway, the place was huge and very packed. It was also very hot outside, being June and all. It was cool seeing the Bosstones because I knew a few of their songs, and for about 10 minutes, I had a crush on Dicky Barret. He had on this really awesome black suit with flames going all around it. And he brought some kid up on stage and let him wear his jacket. Then to everyone's surprise, he said something about how he was going to donate the suit to the Hard Rock Cafe, but instead was going to give it to that kid. I thought that was really cool of him. And Im sure the kid did as well. Also during their set, some ditzy girl with big boobs got pulled up on stage and she was dancing around like an idiot bouncing all over the place. Then to the enjoyment of all the males there, she flashed the camera and her implants covered the screen at the front of the stage. Yuck! Sugar Ray went on next. They were really fun to watch, because Mark interacted very well with the audience. When he took off his wifebeater we saw his big IRISH tattoo across his back. It's really nice. After Sugar Ray was Everlast. Now at this point in the afternoon, the sun was beating down. Even though I had on a hat, which is very rare for me, the sun was still shining bright in my eyes. During Everlast, I started feeling a little light headed. I squatted down to try and get my bearings, then stood back up. Then I started to feel lightheaded again, and I told Karen that I thought I was going to faint. So she walked me out of the crowd. I was stumbling through the crowd and I could hear people around me laughing. They thought I was drunk, because I couldn't walk straight. Karen got me out of the crowd and I went to get something to eat and something to drink. I don't think I had eaten enough that morning, or had enough to drink during the day, and my body was definitely letting me know. After that we decided to just to chill on the grass and watch Third Eye Blind. Karen really liked them and enjoyed watching them. After they played we decided to leave. It had been a long day, even though we had only really seen four bands. But I think both of us were pretty much ready to go. Even though I almost fainted and I didn't get to see silverchair, I suppose the day was all right. | |||||
