| Fabulous show. Melina and Cory picked me up at the Midtown Marta station around 7:30, and we headed over to the Masquerade. Outside, we saw a lot of emo-esque looking kids standing around. We waited outside for a bit. While waiting, we saw this guy who looked like Luke, a good friend of my ex, Bert. Melina and I were pretty sure it was him, especially since we saw him drinking some type of soy milk (Hes vegan) We went inside after a little while. It was only $8 and not $10 like we thought it was going to be so that was pretty cool. Inside we saw some of the shun boys walking around. It was nice to actually see them there. There were really gonna play. Cris (one of the guitarist for shun) cut his hair and he looks SOOO different. At first I thought he was Gary from Swift, cause he looked just like him. But then I remembered that swift wasnt playing and when I looked closer I saw that it was Cris. More and more kids started coming. There were a bunch of high school kids there (7th AND 8th period) who were all obviously there to see their friends band from homeroom. There were SOO many girls there too, it was weird. Anyway the first band to play was A Summers Disregard. It was like their CD release party or something, and at the first opening note of their first song all their friends tossed glitter confetti, silly string, streamers and what not up into the air. They made a terrible mess of the floor. How do you clean up glitter? You dont. It stays on the ground forever! Anyway, this band was definitely a high school band. The singer hasnt gone through puberty yet and his voice was annoying and way too high. And we know how I cant deal with crappy lead singers. So blah on them. Lee and Dusty from [minus] were here by this time. [minus] shouldve played this show but Jordans out of town or something. Cause how weird is it that shun is playing a show in Atlanta, but not with [minus]? Its very strange. Akeem came after the first band finished. Akeem is so much fun to be around, and when he arrived, the mood really picked up. Janelle came after the first band played as well. Before the next band, Akeem, Cory, Melina and I were standing around in a circle near the front steps. Melina saw the guy who we thought was Luke walking towards backstage. Melina told Akeem to yell his name to see if it was him. Sure enough when Akeem yelled LUKE he turned around. Akeem waved his hands in the air and Luke came over. Melina being the nerd she is said, oh my God, is he really coming over? Haha. Then she went to hide behind Cory. Luke came over and said that he thought he had recognized me. We talked for like 5 minutes or so. Just bullshitting. Hes friends with some of the guys in A Summers Disregard. Anyway it was weird seeing Luke there, but cool. I havent seen him since October of 2000. He came with us to the Deftones show at the Tabernacle. I got tired of standing up after a while, so I sat down next to Melina on the steps. Some of the chronic guys came over and started talking to Akeem. Janelle came over and sat next to Cory. Cris came up to her and she was talking to him. Then he shook the hands of Melina, Cory and I, and asked if we had been at one of their shows before. Its nice that he recognized us. The next band to play was Harbour. I thought they were better than a Summers Disregard. Their music was more mellow and melodic. But again the singers voice wasnt too great. Most of us (my friends and I) were sitting in the back. The people up front to the stage watching didnt seem to like Harbour much at all. There seemed to be a screaming match going back and forth between the singer and someone in the crowd. It seemed to take them forever to play their set. I was just dying to see shun and I really didnt like having to wait for this other band to finish. When Harbour was done boring us with their incessant droning, it was finally time for shun. Akeem, Melina, Cory, the Chronic MD dudes, and I all went up to the front. I was so excited to see shun. Finally a shun -show in Atlanta. While shun was setting up, Id say three-fourths of the people there left. Fucking idiots! They left before seeing the best band in the world. That was their loss though. Now the two other times Ive seen shun Cris has played on the left side of the stage and David, the other guitar player has been on the right. But they switched sides this time. Its not like it mattered or anything. Its just an observation. David and Jac (the drummer) dont really say much. I think maybe the second time we saw them in Nashville, Jac may have nodded his head in our direction. But David, I think hes mute because Ive never heard him say anything. But hes probably just really shy. Anyway, they opened with the song Earth ( I think thats the name). Next they played Glass to Sand. They played a number of songs, 3 of which were old songs: Glass to Sand, Hopesend, and Second Voice. Some of the new songs they played were Neo, Fear of Heights, and Everyone Here is Sleeping. shun were absolutely unbelievable. I was standing there watching them, and I was just so moved. This may sound incredibly lame but I dont care, because its the truth. Whenever I see shun live, their music just touches me so much. Its almost like a spiritual experience. Something about them just goes inside me and grabs me. I was watching them and I felt like crying, I dont even know why. They just sounded so beautiful. As I watched shun up on stage, sounding so perfect, Billy hitting all of those incredibly difficult notes, I just wish that I somehow had the power to hand them a multi million dollar record contract. I know their not in this music business just to make money. But theyre doing something so beautiful, so unique, that they should have the chance to share their music with millions of people on a larger scale. Even though there werent many of us there left for shun, those of us who were there enjoyed their set immensely. After shuns set, we watched a little of Not Waving But Drowning. I saw them last summer with minus, but had forgotten what they sounded like. We decided to leave after a few songs. I got a picture with Billy before I left though. Hehe. Yeah Im a nerd. Anyway, awesome show, I had fun, and everyone liked me glassjaw shirt. | ||||||
