| Wow, this was our first EMO show! Hehe. Very different from all of the other shows that we go to. A bunch of us went to this show to see New End Original. Melina and I got down there around 7, and saw that there was no one in line. So we went to CNN center, where she called Janelle to see if she was on her way. Janelle had been trying to get Lee to go, but it had seemed like he wasnt going to go. See New End Original is Jonah Matrangas new band. He was the lead singer of Far and is very respected and admired by many people. He lent his vocals to the [minus] track "Hesitant and Polite". Now to have someone like Jonah on their demo really made an impression. Jonah was the main reason some even bought Structure of Simplicity. So [minus] owe a lot to him. We hoped that at least a couple of them would come to the show After Melina finished talking to Janelle we walked back over to the Cotton Club, where we saw Cory. So we just hung out and talked to him before the show. When we went inside, we went to a table and sat down on some stools. Janelle came shortly thereafter. She wasnt sure if any of the boys were gonna come. Then Jonah came up and started talking to her. He knows Janelle pretty well, so they talked for awhile. By this time, Sharks and Minnows were on stage. They were just a 3-piece band, but actually pretty good. I enjoyed their set. It was weird though because no one was moving around, everyone was just sitting or standing still. We just arent used to shows like that so it was a bit odd to see. Much to our delight about half way into Sharks and Minnows set, Lee, Dusty, and Jordan all showed up! Three-fourths of [minus] aint bad at all. Jordan came over and hugged Melina and I, said hello, then walked away. Hehe. He was wearing his Far sweatshirt which was just so cute! Dusty had on his Hustler shirt and his Hustler hat. It was so funny, he was just such the contrast to all the other kids there. But I love Dusty. Before New End Original took to the stage, Janelle, Dusty, Cory, Melina and I all went up to the front. While we were waiting, I just started to talk to Dusty. That boy is so cool! Hes so easy to talk to; he makes you feel very comfortable around him. I asked him what happened to their Boy Hits Car show they were supposed to play, and he said it got cancelled because there was some benefit show that same night or something, but that they really wanted to play. He talked about this new song they had just finished called "Light Years." He said it totally didnt sound like [minus] but that it was good nonetheless. He described it as a mix between The Cure and Weezer. Very cool. Then he was teasing Melina about some cute boy that she saw who was cute, and he was telling her to go up to him, and he even gave her lines to use. But we know that Melina is too shy to go an talk to a stranger. Then he started talking about the Bad News Bears, and how it was just one of the greatest movies. Hehe. Dusty rules. When New End Original started playing, I was just amazed. Their sound is great, and Jonahs voice just commands attention. Its so powerful. I really enjoyed their set. Dusty and Janelle got out of the front before NEOs set was over, so that left Melina and I right in the front, in front of Jonah. He was looking at me and smiling. And I thought that was really weird. I didnt know why he was doing that. I had my Michael Jackson Thriller shirt on, so I thought he just found that amusing. After NEOs set, we all went over by the merch table. The [boys] said hi to Jonah, and talked to him for a bit. Then we were just talking with the [guys] for awhile, and I started dancing to the music that was playing over the speakers, and Dusty was like, Oh do you want to dance? Lets dance. Then Jordan started to try and dance with me by like rubbing his butt on my leg. HAHA. That boy is just too much some times. I just kept laughing. Then Dusty took me aside, and tried to teach me how to do the pretzel. I got some of it, but just ended up being confused. He said that he would show me the rest some time later. Then they decided to leave, so we said bye to them. I went up to Jonah and asked him for a picture. He was pleased to take one much to my delight. So I got a picture with Jonah! I rule! Hehe. At this time Hey Mercedes was playing. They were ok, but we only stayed for like 2 of their songs. Then we left. When we walked out into the parking lot, we saw Dusty and Janelle in a car, and Lee walking around outside. They were listening to the new song Light Years, that Dusty had been telling me about. It sounded really good. Theyre such talented boys. After listening to a little bit of it, Melina and I told them bye and then headed back to Athens. The next day I was in the library in between classes and I decided to look up the New End Original cd to see where I could get it (It was sold out at the show). It was then that I realized that Thriller was the name of their album. And there I had been at the show with my Michael Jackson Thriller shirt! Oh my I felt like such a nerd. Jonah probably thought I wore that show on purpose. And that is most likely why he was smiling at me. I swear I didnt plan it! That night was also the day that Michael Jackson released his new album Invincible. I didnt plan that either. ;-) | |||||
