| Saturday my mom woke me up early so that I could try and do some of my English paper. But I didnt do much. I think I was just too excited about Swift and [minus] to pay attention. Akeem came and picked me up around 4 or so. And we drove other to Hobgood Park in Woodstock. The festival they were having was called Cruizers Teen Town Festival. And it was free so we were like, cool. We walked over to where the stage was and it was really cool, like a little amphitheater. But there weren't many people there at all. Akeem said that he talked to the promoter of the show who didn't really promote it. Thats too bad because if it had been promoted, it could've been really cool. The first band we saw was called Vertical Frisbee Mitt. Most of their set was covers. They played two 311 songs, Machinehead by Bush, Shout 2000 as done by Disturbed, and Cherub Rock by The Smashing Pumpkins which they pretty much butchered. The guitar player couldnt even hit the solo, and the drummer was totally off. When Akeem and I were sitting there watching them, Jeremy came over with his cousin. [minus] and swift came shortly after. Jordan was walking around with his video camera filming some parts of the different bands sets. The next act was saw was called FatCat, a rap group. We could only handle about two of their songs, before we had to go to get away from them. We went backstage to look for Janelle and we found her talking to Dusty and Lee and Jeremy. So we went over and I got a hug from Lee and Dusty. It's so weird, like I never used to talk to those boys but now I do which is pretty cool. Then they went off somewhere, and Janelle went to find Gary. So we went over to Swift's van, and there Gary was talking to Jordan. They were having a technical conversation about music that I didn't understand, something about equipment. Then Gary was saying that he's blown out his voice a few times recording/practicing, because he gets so into the songs that he almost breaks down in a way. He's a very intense emotional performer. It's amazing to watch him. Billy was over there talking to Jordan as well. Akeem and I just stood around, since I didn't know what to say to them. So we went back to Janelle's car where Dusty and Jeremy were in the processing of stealing cigarettes from her car. Naughty naughty boys. The next band Akeem and I watched was Psyche Origami. They weren't bad, but I felt sorry for them because Akeem and me and like 4 others were the only ones watching them. But they didn't care, they just did their thing and had fun on stage. It was two guys, a black dude rapping and a white dude on the turntables. They were like a de la soul/tribe called quest mix. After their set, Akeem and I went over to them, to tell them that they did a good job. The black dude even gave Akeem a CD for free, which was pretty cool. The next band to go on was Favorite, who kept saying they were from Portland Oregon. But they weren't the damn liars. haha. But they were pretty good. Next was Swift. It was funny because whoever was announcing them said, "Next up from Atlanta we have Swift." Swift is from Winston-Salem NC. Gary said, "Yeah we're Swift from Atlanta. This is only our second show in Atlanta..." It was pretty funny. But anyway... Wow they were amazing. The only thing is that I couldn't hear Gary at some times. But man, he just got so emotional when he was performing, jumping everywhere, looking like he wanted to bang his head into a wall. He writes some crazy lyrics. They didn't play anything from Thoughts are Thought. But they did play Lovesick and it sounded amazing. It was funny when Gary announced that they were playing the song, Matt says something like, "Hell yeah and its a fucking awesome song too!" Hehe he was really excited. I think they were gonna play longer but they got cut off. But it was awesome seeing them. They're so good! I got a shirt after they played, and was excited to see that it fits close even though it's a medium. The next band to play was called Sexxxy Cirkus. They were like a rock Outkast with a Fungus Amongus Incubus flavor. Two black singers, who kept gyrating and shaking their hips for the entire set. I think they said that they were from Greenville, SC. They were entertaining to watch though. Jordan was like, "Wow, are they for real?" He was video taping them too. Slangbanger was next, they're from Atlanta, and basically they sucked. But oh well. [minus] was the last band to go on and they kicked ass! Dru, Rachel and Josh actually got there right before [minus] played. I didnt think they were coming. They started late because Dusty's adapter wasnt working, so Gary had to get one for him. But they had a great set list. They opened with Ename. They also played, Nuill, At the Scene, Half-mile and Balls. When they played Father's Eyes, Jordan grabbed my head and pulled me towards him so that I could sing into the mic. That was pretty cool. I couldnt even hear myself though. But shrug. Anyway, the boys werent sure how they were doing on time, so Dusty asked the crowd, which had grown to a good size by now, if we wanted to hear Stranded. We said yes. Then he said, Or would you rather hear Hesitant and Polite. So we screamed, Hesitant and Polite. Then he said, Well how about both. So they played both. False Start and Antivanity were on the set list but they didnt have time to play those. Anyway, when they started Hesitant and Polite, a bunch of people got up on stage to sing along. And then Jordan pulled Akeem and me up there too. I was the only girl up there I felt like a nerd. So we were all singing back up. It was cool until the second part of the song where we come in with I am intention, intention is effortless. Gary like tripped over Lees chord or plug or something and fucked up his bass. While they were trying to fix it, we just kept singing that part over and over and over again. They boys didnt even get to finish the song, because the promoters pulled the plug on them. Hehe. But dammit it was still pretty cool. After the show we made the rounds and told everyone goodbye. Akeem was talking to Gary who had to leave and Gary gave Akeem a hug and Matt one too I think. Then as Gary walked away Akeem said, Hey Gary you didnt give Shaliza a hug. And Gary said, Oh Im sorry, and he hugged me and said that I did a good job singing. Gary doesnt even know me, I didnt even say a word to him, and he hugged me just because Akeem said something to him. Boys are weird. Gary said that theyd love to play that show on January 5th. SO thats cool. All we need is Shun and were set. Saturday was an awesome time, and I found out that Akeem is so much fun to hang out with. | ||||||
