| So yesterday we made another 4 hour drive to SC. We got to the venue around 2 and we had no idea how in hell we were going to find Juan. That of course was our biggest concern. The venue was the Hornets Training Center or something. And it was this huge building with a guard at the main entrance so you couldnt go around to the back where the buses were. Well we didnt know what to do so we decided to go get something to eat. We were driving down the road when we passed a gas station and saw someones back turned to us talking on the phone. Immediately Melina said, I bet thats Jarrod. I said, yeah right. What would be the odds of that being him? But sure enough when we turned back around we saw him walking down the street. I couldnt believe it! so we pulled up next to him and he looked surprised to see us again. But hes so cool and nice that we just talked to him for a little bit. He was out walking around by himself, again. We asked him if he knew if Juan was there and he said he didnt know. Anyway after talking to him for a bit we went to get something to eat. When we got back to the venue we kinda just stood around, worrying about whether or not wed be able to find Juan. The security people wouldnt let anyone to the back and we didnt even know if the Deftones were even there yet, which was frustrating. So basically we spent most of our time there worried about finding Juan. The doors opened at 6:30 and we were right in front again. Taproots set was awesome as usual and they played impact the first time of this tour, but they took out one night stand. When they came out we talked to Phil and Jarrod and got pics with them. Jarrod said he couldnt do anything about the passes so Juan (if we could find him) was our only hope. When Mike came around, he also remembered us. He said that theyd be touring again soon with Linkin Park. Anyway, I think the crew was setting up for Incubus when Melina saw Juan walking across the stage, she nudged me and I yelled his name. He didnt hear me at first so I screamed louder. Then he saw me and waved and smiled. I mouthed the words, backstage passes? to him and he mouthed back, I got you. and smiled. Thats when we knew we were in. Incubus went on to play an awesome set. I got the set list too. The Deftones rocked again of course. We had forgotten to tell Chi that we would be at the SC show so I think he was sorta surprised to see us there. But he thought it was cool just the same and gave us water again. I love Chi! During knife party Chino stood up in the crowd right in front of Melina and I. I was holding his hand for a while and then his leg. It was so awesome. He even let Melina scream into the mic. It was so cool. During the encore, Juan gave us the passes and we quickly slipped them into our pockets. For Say it Aint So, Brandon joined Chino singing on it. After the show we hung out until they were ready to take us backstage. We were separated into two groups though. People who had D on the passes and those who had F/B. We had F/B so we got to go backstage first. I think the other people only got to meet the Deftones, not hang out with themWhile walking up the steps, I turned around and saw these two people who had been at the Atlanta show when the railing broke. Their names were Kendra and Jeremy. Jeremy was the one who lost the top of his finger when the barrier broke He also had two broken fingers. Kendra rode with him to the hospital even though they had just met that day. I guess the Deftones found out about him and hooked him up with passes for this show. And since Kendra was so nice to him, he brought her along. So anyway, Steve, who is the Deftones manager I think, took us back into this dimly lit room with all of these balloons and stuff for Franks birthday. There was even a cake. I dont think anyway ate any of it though, everyone was just drinking beer. There actually werent very many people, mostly just friends and crew of the band and groupies of course. And a few of us lucky normal people. Anyway, the band came in, one at a time. It was so weird seeing Chino Fucking Moreno a few feet away from me. Chi came over to talk to Melina and I. He doesnt normally go to those after party things, but he was at the one last night cause it was Franks birthday and because he was looking for his sister in law who he thought might show up. So it was pretty lucky for us that he was even there. He was decked out in like slippers and his pajamas. He even had on one of those Rastafarian hats. He hung out with us for the longest time. He said that he read my poems and really liked them. He also asked me a lot about one particular poem which was cool cause it seemed like he was really interested. He talked to Melina about her drawing and told her that once he read over the poem again he remembered that he indeed did write it. I guess thats good. I asked him about reggae and he talked a lot about how he liked old school reggae and jazz and blues. He also loves punk, like rancid and operation ivy. He said the only autograph hes ever gotten was from one of the guys in rancid because his wife loves them. He said he felt really stupid asking for it though. He also said that he sang in a punk band once and that he really liked it. | |||||||
