[minus], Kindlespine, Calm, Chronic MD, and Dylation
Saturday January 5th, 2002- The Cotton Club:  Atlanta, GA
Dormanicide 2002. It was supposed to be an incredibly amazing event.  Kindlespine, Chronic MD, Swift, shun, and [minus].  The night before I was so excited. Finally a show with swift, [minus], and shun all in one place.  I had been looking forward to it for months and it was only a day away.  Sunday morning I woke up, just as happy as could be. Then around 11 or so, Melina called me.  guess what? she said.  shun and swift cancelled.  WHAT!?!!, I said.  I couldnt believe it!  The show had gone from dream to zero in a few hours.  Swift cancelled because Gary was sick and couldnt sing.  Shun had to cancel because their van broke down the night before. I was crushed.  I tried calling my friend Nathan in Tennessee, to see if he knew anyone that could lend a vehicle to shun. But I couldnt get through to him.  He was coming up for the show and I didnt know if hed still want to come if he knew shun and swift cancelled.  My friend Justin was also coming up for the show from Florida with some of his friends and I just knew he was gonna be bummed. He really wanted to see Swift and was driving such a long way. But he and his friends had left early in the morning and so I knew that hed be long gone.  I took Marta to the show and the first person I saw there was Jeremy. Talked to him for a bit, and then he went away to talk to some other people. Then Justin came up to me with one of his friends and we talked for a bit.  He seemed disappointed that swift and shun werent playing (of course) but he didnt seem as upset as I thought he would be. So thats good I guess.  Melina and Cory showed up and so did Nathan and his girlfriend.  And of course the fold crew was there, and leftfield as well. So this was a show with the regular ATL crowd. The first band to play was Dylation.  I didnt really pay much attention to them. They had this guitar player who everyone said was trying to look like Wes Borland.  He had his face painted in a scary looking manner and he was wearing this long black collared cloak or something.  I guess they werent horrible, but they really didnt keep my interest.  Next was Chronic MD.  Now Chronic is a tight band. They play good music. But their singer was icky.  He has since left the band, thankfully. However, I will say that he vastly improved from the last time I had seen them. For some weird reason, Chronic has like this massive fan base, and so there were SOO many people there to see them.  A bunch of their high school friends I guess.  After they played a lot of people left which was really stupid I thought. Cause the best bands hadnt even played yet.  The next band to play was Calm.  Theyre from Florida. Anyway they tore it up. Really loud, energized set. The singers voice is just insane, he gets so into it. And they have a black guitar player!  Can you imagine a black dude being in a band and not singing or playing bass? Yeah I know its hard to believe. But this dude absolutely rocked so I give him much props.  Hopefully, theyll come back up to Atlanta and do another show.  Kindlespine was next and they were good. They played a new song that I really liked, Akeem said I would.  They also did a cover of Pretty Lush by Glassjaw which everyone loved, cause you know how obsessed us Atlanta kids are with Glassjaw.  Next was [minus] and they rocked the house. I love that band!  I never get bored with them and they always put on a good show.  That was the end of the show, and while it wasnt what everyone thought it would be, it was still a good time.
