| Deftones and Glassjaw Thursday July 20th, 2000- The Tabernacle: Atlanta, GA |

| I was so excited to see Deftones. This would be my first time seeing them on a headlining tour. I had seen them at Ozzfest the year before, but it wasnt really the same since they were so far away that I could barely make out who was who. But now I was going to see them at one of my favorite venues. Bert (my man at the time) rocked and gave me about 3 editions of White Pony, the live Tones cd, and a ticket to the show a few weeks before the 20th. He worked at Best Buy and so he got 4 tickets for free! Not only was I gonna see one of my favorite bands, but it wasnt gonna cost a cent out of my pocket. RoCk! The day of the show, I went to the Tabernacle straight from work (that summer I was working at Cartoon Network on 10th street). I changed clothes in Philips Arena, and then walked on over to the Tabernacle. Bert said that he would meet me there later, and since I had my ticket, I was ready to go. The doors opened, and I made my way up stairs. At this time, I was much to afraid to be on the floor during a show. Yeah I was a dork back then, but Melina cured me of that. Up in the balcony, I sat on the left side in the front row. I sat and waited patiently for the show to begin. Deftones only had one opening band. They were a little known band out of New York called Glassjaw. When they started playing, everyone on the floor just went nuts. When I saw the pit break open, I was happy not to be down there with them. To be honest, I wasnt that into Glassjaw. Its strange to say that since now Im SUCH a HUGE fan of theirs. I didnt even really give them a good listening to. I was just so eager to see Deftones, and I didnt want to wait any longer. The only thing I can remember about their set is that there was this guy who kept doing flips into the crowd. Once, he fell right to the floor, but he got right back up so I guess he was ok. I remember Daryl was wearing a red shirt, and I remember thinking that he was pretty hot too. Ha. Of course thats something I would recognize. After Glassjaw finished their set, Deftones were next. Bert and his friend Luke came up to the balcony and sat with me. Deftones went on an did an amazing job. I was having the best time singing along to the songs. They played Be Quiet and Drive, Root, My Own Summer, and Root among others. I couldnt believe that I was actually watching Deftones. I was psyched! At the end of their set, Steph was tossing out pics to people and Abe was tossing out his drum sticks. He threw one up so high that it flew right into my hands practically. All the way up there in the balcony, all I had to do is reach out and grab it. Wow! A stick from Abe Cunningham. I was stoked. After the show, Luke, Bert and I met their friend Jason outside. We waited around the back for a while to see if the guys from Deftones would come out. So many people were asking to by the drumstick from me. No Way! I said. It started to drizzle, and after a while we had to leave because Jason had to get up for work early the next morning. But I enjoyed the show immensely and was glad that I got to see Deftones in such a small venue. | ||||
