Further Seems Forever, One Line Drawing, Recover, & A Summer Story
Saturday February 2nd, 2002- The Capri Cinema: Augusta, GA
This was an interesting day.  It wouldve been a perfectly good show except that I lost my new glasses that I hadnt even had for a month yet.  But I will get to that later.  I was excited about going to Augusta for a show because Ive never been there for one. We just always pass through it on our way to other shows.  I guess we got there around 6:30.  We stayed in the car up until the doors opened because it was really cold outside. I wanted to buy a FSF hoodie, but they didnt have the black one that I wanted, they had these new blue ones and I didnt like them very much.  I saw Jordan, this guy that sells merch for FSF and who I talk to sometimes online. Its funny cause I bought this red Further shirt from him and he probably had no clue who I was.  He was very nice to me though, so its cool to know that hes a cool guy at least.  The Capri Cinema is really small.  I think its maybe a little bigger than Under the Couch.  The first band to play was called A Summer Story. They were from Charleston, SC I believe.  They werent bad.  But again, the singers voice wasnt all that great, so that kept me from enjoying them completely.  Next was Recover. Theyre from Texas, Austin or Houston I really cant remember.  They were actually pretty good. They had two guys singing.  The bass player kept playing "Schism" by Tool when they were warming up.  One of the guitar players was this really tall lanky dude. He was SOOO skinny, but he looked like a total rockstar. Some kids in front of us started pushing and jumping around, and a little mini emo pit broke out.  It was stupid.  We went up front for Jonahs one line drawing. Oh my God he was SOOO amazing.  He opened up with Be Quiet and Drive (far away). Yes thats the Deftones song. He also played Breathless, 14-41, Lukewarm (New End Original), Waiting for Sunday (Far), and No Ordinary Love (Sade), along with other songs.  I was really happy that he played New End Original stuff. But I guess New End stuff is early one line drawing stuff.  Jonah is just really amazing to watch.  He has such a powerful voice and such an amazing stage presence, and I think its really hard for one person to get up on stage and command attention from the audience.  There were these annoying lesbian girls next to us who kept talking and being so rude, I just wanted to hit them.  They totally werent respecting Jonah while he was playing. But I tried my best to ignore them.  But the funniest thing that happened was when some girl yelled Get the fuck off of the stage. And Jonah said, Thats not gonna happen lady, you get the fuck out of the room. And everyone applauded.  It was so funny.  I think most of those asswipes would have enjoyed Jonah if they had just had the common sense to stand still and just listen to him.  Anyway, Jonah put on an amazing performance.  Next came Further.  As they were setting up, the sound system was playing Taproots album, Gift. I was mouthing the words and thinking, cool Taproot at an emo show.  While Further was trying to check their sound or whatever, Jason (the new singer) gets up at the mic and says, Hey could you please turn down the Limp Bizkit or whatever that is?  Some kids chuckled.  Melina and I were like whatever!  We thought that was a really smart ass comment for him to make, because obviously Taproot dont sound anything like Limp Bizkit.  Jason needs to remember that hes a replacement dammit! Hehe.. Sorry.  Anyway, on with the show. I think they opened with Pictures of Shorelines.  And the crowd got rowdy!  About the third song in, I was pushed off to the left and I was going to go to the back. I dont know why I didnt though. All of a sudden, this kid jumps off the stage and flies past my face, taking my brand new glasses with him. I didnt realize that they were gone for about 20 seconds. Then I felt my face and they werent there and my heart dropped. The place was packed and I tried to bend down to see if I could find them. No luck, there were just too many people. I just went off to the side and stood up against the wall, not even paying attention to the rest of Furthers set.  I was just so worried about my glasses.  When they finished, which seemed to take forever, I went to the front to look, but it was hard for me to see. Melina and Cory found me and started looking with me.  We found one of the lenses but nothing else, meaning someone took them. I was crushed. All I kept thinking was, 'My dad is gonna kill me!'. It was pretty difficult to enjoy the rest of the night.  But I did enjoy the short 3 minute set that Jonah did when everyone had left.  He sat in this little walkway and performed for about 10 minutes for about 15 of us.  The last song he did was about America throughout history.  He did it without his guitar, he just sang and it was breathtaking.  His voice just filled the room, and it was great.  It sounded amazing. And for a few minutes, I  wasnt thinking about my glasses.  That's the sign of a good performance.  When you're not thinking about anything else but the music. We left after that.  On the way home, I tried to sleep and keep my mind off my glasses.  Later on though, when I told my parents my dad wasnt mad at all and just said that wed go get another pair, so I didnt have to be upset.  That made me feel a lot better.
