Poison the Well, American Nightmare, EighteenVisions, & Everytime I Die
Saturday March 30th, 2002- Cotton Club: Atlanta, GA
I was SOOO excited about seeing Poison the Well. I hadnt seen them in several months (since July of 2001) and I couldnt wait to see them perform.  Cory, Melina, and David picked me up at the North Springs Marta station around 8 pm.  After getting Chick-fil-a and driving through buckets of rain we made it to the Cotton Club. I was shocked to see how packed it was inside. I knew a lot of people liked Poison the Well but DAMN!  We walked down the stairs and went to the right side of the stage.  Everytime I Die was onstage. They were alright I guess.  I wasnt paying much attention to them. I was looking around for Chris (PTW).  I wanted a picture with him in the worse way.  I saw Derek, Jeff and Ryan walking around but no Chris.  Derek was standing on our side watching the bands for awhile. I was surprised to see him wearing a Cure shirt.  It was the Boys Dont Cry one, and one that I actually have.  I was wearing a Smiths shirt. I wanted him to see it because I know how much he likes the Smiths.  But I didnt get a chance to talk to him.  Jeff spent a lot of time standing at the side of the stage watching the various bands play.  After Everytime I die came Eighteen Visions.  Melina wanted to be up front for them because she wanted to be close for Poison the Well.  I wasnt too sure about that.  I saw Artee standing on the far left so I went over to talk to her.  Then I just decided to stay there because I really didnt want to be in the center front.  Thats when I ran into Lamar, this cool kid that I talk to online.  I asked him if I could get up on stage and take pictures with him during PTWs set. He said sure.  Then Melina came over because she decided that she didnt really want to be in the center front either.  Then we decided to go over to the right side of the stage, away from the heavy moshing and what not.  Anyway, so yeah American Nightmare.  They werent bad I guess.  I wasnt really getting into them though. During their set all these kids started to get really rowdy.  They started jumping off of the stage into the crowd.  And people started getting hurt. One by one, kids were pulling their friends out of the front because someone had either landed on them on kicked them in the head. OUCH!  I dont understand why they have to be so violent. Its alright to have fun, but its like theyre just out for blood or something. This one girl we saw got seriously kicked in the forehead and she was brought out crying and holding her head. She was bleeding a lot.  Then one of Joshs friends (Josh is one of Corys friends) got kicked in the head.  He had this MASSIVE cut on the stop of his head.  It was bleeding A LOT. It was so deep that you could actually lift up his hair, and bring up part of his scalp to see his skull underneath. It was bad.  They were going to take him to the hospital but he didnt want to leave. He wanted to stay for Poison the Well. Thats a fan right there. We had him sit down, and made sure to keep him awake. We were sure that he had a concussion or something, and didnt want him falling asleep, for fear that he might go into a coma or something.  After American Nightmare, it was time for PTW. I went to the left side and got up on stage with Lamar.  The boys set their stuff up and got ready to play.  Once they were all set up, Jeff said, hello and told us to Take care of each other.  I knew that he was quite aware that the crowd was going to be pretty brutal. And they were.  PTW opened their set with To Mandate Heaven.  Everyone went nuts and the pit exploded. Kids were flying off the stage 4 and 5 at a time. Ive never seen anything like it.  Other rowdy songs were My Mirror No Longer Reflects, Artist Rendering of Me,  12-23-93, and Botchla.  They also played Parks and What You Meant to Me, Sticks and Stones, and Moments Over Exaggerate.  They sounded so good. A few times some kids got a little overzealous and just jumped all over Jeff. But he seemed cool with it. People were just dying to scream into the mic.  I was snapping lots of pictures.  I couldnt get any of Derek really cause he had his back turned to me the whole time.  But I did get some good ones. The last song they played was Nerdy and everyone went nuts. It was a great closer.   PTW is always so much fun to watch.  Theyre so full of energy when they play which only gets the kids going even more.  They played a great set and I was happy, even though I didnt get a picture with Chris. That would soon be remedied though.
