We had planned on stopping in West Virginia tonight.
But just south of Harrisonburg, VA, Barbara looked out the rear mirror to
see the left front trailer tire blown out and smoking.
She
pulled of to the side of I-81 as far as she could and then we called the
Camping World Road Service to change the tire. I could have changed
it, but the tire is on the traffic side of the trailer and we felt it was a
bit to risky... After about 25-30 minutes the service truck arrived
and put the spare tire on. Since we did not want to travel too much
further with no spare, we decided to stop at
Harrisonburg/New
Market KOA for the night so we could look for a spare tire.
Ironically, we had originally planned on staying here for a couple days this
weekend for the KOA special deal weekend. But when we had the slide
problems, we canceled the reservation. They charged us $10 service fee
for canceling the reservation and would not credit us the service fee to
tonight's fee. We asked the folks in the office where a tire
dealer was and they directed us to
CC Rosen Tires a bit north of New Market.
After calling to confirm they had the right size tire, we went up and
replaced the blown out tire. It only took about 15 minutes to get the
tire replaced and head back to the campground.
This is the THIRD problem this trip. First the slide
slipped out of alignment and I broke the bolt. Next a rock got kicked
up and broke the truck windshield. Today, a trailer tire blew out.
All four tires had been replaced back in 2004 and I checked the air pressure
yesterday morning. There had not been any leaks, so the pressure
should have been fine.
