Heavy Petting Zoo 5
Violent Phlegms 8
Attendance: Everyone except Noriko and Pat Gilmour (the movie star)
Our first win of the season and a good time was had by all! Blair from HPZ got the mood going with an offering of sliced oranges. Yeah buddy! The game started a little late (thanks Danny for insisting we stick to the schedule). We scored the first few points and kept the lead for the entire game. Heavy Petting Zoo is a team with a fair amount of rookies and they gave it their all. Happily for them, they scored a few long throws on us. As we all know by now, these long throws are great for getting quick points and boosting morale - it's the short throws, however, that take the most skill, and we're getting better at these.
The male/female split was 4/2 and it seemed to work OK. If anyone had insufficient playing time, just let us know!
Some highlights:
Ross's catch: Halfway between a layout and a stumble, by far the most dramatic play and a fine piece of showmanship.
D-blocks: we seem to be getting our arms in there more. Luckily for us, they had some low-speed throws that were easy to knock down, but still, it felt good.
Great calls: There was a couple of picks called - our first encounters with picks this season, and they were discussed and resolved quickly, as were the fouls. There was an interesting resolution for an alleged out-of-bounds catch by Ross. It's up to the catcher to "check feet" to see if the disc was caught in or out of bounds. Usually it's not contested but hats off to Ross for giving the other team the benefit of the doubt and doing the play over.
