| January 31, 2002 Violent Phlegms 10 Leadbelly Blues 2 Attendance: Missing were Pete (illness), Jen (out of town), Marty (travelling), and Ross. Pat played a point or two but was sidelined with a tender tummy. Leadbelly Blue's captain Tami has won a lot of respect by choosing to head a team that is almost all rookies. Missing from their team was Journal writer Todd Babiak, who usually comes out every week. He's a great player, and this team gave the Clap a run for their money the week before. Compounding the rookie factor was a late start due to some of their player's tardiness. We allowed them to pick up other team's players but in the end they opted to keep it real and just use their own after a couple more of their people showed up. They ended up playing a 3 male/3 female line-up for most of the game. Two of the women were very short! For some reason, Tami and Rob (another non-rookie) seemed to hold back and let the game slide. The scoring came easily, to the point of discomfort. We, too, tried a 3m/3f lineup to lighten it up - in fact, it would have been great if we could have done a few all-female points. Instead, we decided to work on playing well, as if it were a practise. But even doing this felt somewhat odd. "It's not the first time we've been smoked", said Tami halfway through the game, "At least we weren't skunked!" A European cheer was performed after some apologetic banter. |
| Danny gets a rude awakening from Tami. The first picture shows Tami reaching over Danny to snag the disc from above. Instead, she accidentally creamed him on the nose and ripped off his cap. The second picture shows Tami's immediate reaction: horror at the thought of hurting another player. |
