Forum January 17 part 2 Some advanced Clap Techniques
Even though we beat them, the Clap is an innovative team. They will not hesitate to try something new or unexpected. That, combined with their natural talent, make them a team to be reckoned with. Despite their dismal record, they are one of the most interesting teams in the league. You may recall their famous v-offence which decimated us a while back. Here are some other fascinating Clapisms:
Karla (in the tuque) is performing a "poach". Her priority is to prevent Danny from passing up the wall, and she has left the woman she was defending (Marty), confident that Danny would probably not throw to her. It is an excellent defensive position. If only Paul forced Danny into the wall more, the Clap would have been impenetrable. Karla is actually half-expecting Marty to run up the field, yelling "POACH", as experienced players sometimes do, mainly to call attention to the fact that they are free from a defender.
Luckily, Marty stayed to Paul's left, near our endzone and Danny completed a short pass to her. As was mentioned before, if Paul had forced Danny into the wall, there would have been few options - Danny would have had to wait for a dump..
Here, Ed (in red) is performing a "thumb hammer". It is a short-distance overhand throw. Ask an experienced player how to do one!
Here, Paul from Clap has caught the disc in mid-air and has landed straddling the sideline. Brandon rightly pointed out that straddling is technically "out". However, Paul had an excellent opportunity to perform what is known as "The Greatest": catching the disc in mid-air and throwing it into the endzone before he touches the ground again.
