Chapter Six
As the sun started fading and the sky was darkening, there was hardly anyone left on the beach. Mostly old couples and a couple younger ones, coming and going. Tabby now sat in the sand, the same position she had been earlier, this time with Trevor by her side. " This is good." she said to him, as she swallowed a bite of her cheeseburger they had got from a stand nearby.
" You said that about the first one, and the two plates of fries. How can you eat so much and still look so good? I have to work hard to look like this and I'm no where near satisfied." Trevor said. At first Tabby was caught off gaurd with his comment and didn't want to talk about her problem.
" Oh I'm not either, but I'll be satisfied once I finish this burger." she said, taking the last bite. Trevor laughed and lighlty patted her leg with his hand. She flinched.
" Sorry..." he said, he's cheeks reddening. He'd been apologizing for odd and end things all day, letting the shy side of himself come out.
" It's alright. You're hands are still wet." she said grinning. He wiped them on his towel, and then put his arm around her shoulders. " That's better." she said taking a drink of her Dr. Pepper. She then popped in a peice of gum and they continued to talk for the next hour until it was dark except for the moon.
Tabby surprised herself but letting him get that close to her because the other problem that she had besides thinking she was overweight, was the fact that she was really nervous around guys. She'd never had a real boyfriend, she'd never kissed a guy, and she obviously was a virgin. When Trevor took her back to the beach house he walked her to the door but not before exchanging numbers. Tabby gave him her home phone, her cell phone, her dorm phone, and her beach house phone. He gave her his beach house phone, and home phone numbers.
" I had fun today Tabby." Trevor said.
" Yeah me too." she said shyly as he moved closer to her. She turned her head so that he got her cheek instead of her lips. " I like you Trevor but it's only been one day. I'm willing to take a chance with you but one thing you gotta know is that you've gotta be willing to step up to the plate, swing the bat, and be prepared to strike out because there is no chance of you getting a homerun on the first try." she said, using her long thought out speech.
He chuckled and pushed a peice of her hair out of her eyes. " Alright then. I wasn't expecting anything. I'll call you tomorrow." he said walking away. Tabby smiled as she headed inside.
" Girl! Where have you been?" Sean exclaimed pointing at the clock. The rest of her friends, even that Ashley guy, were all sitting in the living room with two people she didn't know, with worried expressions on their faces.
" Sorry mom, dad, and all you other concerned relatives. I'm not a baby." Tabby laughed and headed up to the bathroom to take a shower. But when she got there the door was locked. She thought nothing about it and went into the other bathroom. The rest of them stayed down in the living room. She couldn't believe they had waited up for her...she guessed it was because in a way she was kinda the baby. She was like the innocent one...and she made sure it stayed that way.
