| Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it a fantabulous band named after a movie about a wee dude in a loincloth with a talking boat looking for a golden sheepy thingy??? Umm, Kind of. Jaysson and the Astronauts are Five guys from all over the place: Tim Knox: Vocals Paul Kirkland: Guitars Robb Anderson: Guitars Jason K-Rocker (hee hee): Bass Iain Wilson: Drums I first met J*A*T*A many moons ago when I was lucky enough to support them when I was a bassist in a band at a gig in my home town they had organised. And they Rawked. Majorly. They were all really nice and friendly towards us. J*A*T*A formed in the August of 1999, but wasn't completed until the arrival of Mr. K-Rocker that November. Paul's parents were best mates with Tim's Grandparents, who was asked to do some songs at a local youth event (that's Tim, not his Grandparents). Tim remembered about Paul being a guitar playa and asked for some help. They never did get to play, but Robb (who Tim also knew) was asked by Tim for a wee jamming session. But Oh No!!! A Drummer was needed! Thanks to Tim's incredible memory and popularity, one Iain Wilson was called upon to do this prestigious task. Finally, Jason completed the line up after being asked by Tim to join; J's old band supported Tim's old band once in Greenock. Their first gig was in January 2000 with "Superhero" (watch out for them on MTV soonish), doing some low key acoustic gigs up until May. But after a gig in Motherwell, they were invited up to Stornoway in the Isle of Lewis, Outer Hebrides, then playing in my home town (which Rawked!). They also did a couple of gigs in "Bar One", one of them being with none other than Shrinking Violet! After that, things really began to roll - they recoreded in November, got a good review for their latest release "Einstein 40", had it played on some radio stations and.Right now they are getting ready to release "Einstien 40", a brand new C.D. thingy, which got 8 out of 10 in Crossrhythms magazine, and get more gigs. And judging by the Demo they have, that shouldn't be very hard. Also, they recently relaunced an improved, Brand Spanking new website which kicks bum, so off you go now and make your mark in their GuestBook.....ahem, I said Go NOW!!!!!! |
