My name is John Kosek. I was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania but I currently live in Moscow, PA. I have been married for twenty six years and I have one sixteen-year old son and one Boston Terrier. I have been teaching at Riverside High School since 1973. My primary teaching assignment is high school art, but I also teach the evening astronomy program.
I recently graduated from Wilkes University with a Master's in Education with a concentration in Classroom Technology. I am currently enrolled in another Master's program with a concentration in Educational Development and Strategy. I am taking this course as an elective in that program for personal enrichment.
I am an avid hiker, and I volunteer my services to Boy Scout Troop 132 in Springbrook, PA as an assistant scoutmaster, serving as "the hiking guy".
One of my most unusual hobbies is chasing total solar eclipses. I have had surprising success in this endeavor, since it depends very much on luck. If the local weather is not clear, you have little or no chance of seeing anything. I have been fortunate enough to have seen four total eclipses and one annular (the moon not being large enough to totally cover the sun). If I'm REAL lucky, and if I can convince my wife, I'll be seeing my fifth eclipse next year in Africa.
