Hello 11

I consider myself to to be a normal sort of chap but I don't seem to be able to get my head around this global warning nonsense.

50 odd years ago people used to complain about the fog "pea soupers" and the like where apparrently you literally could not see your hand in front of your face. Due to various developments clean air as they call it now prevails even in industrial areas. Great, fantastic.

On the news last night on the box was a report from Lake Chad (in Africa I believe) and the fact that over the past twenty years or so the lake has seriously diminished in size all as a result of global warming. Here's the bit I don't undertand; towards the end of the report they said that one hundred years ago the lake dried up completely. This suggests to me that when our air was so dirty that you couldn't see through it this lake was filling up nicely and now everything is nice and clean it is drying up again. Maybe this is a bit simplistic but personally I see no evidence of global warming. I still need to grow my tomatoes in a greenhouse because it's still bloody freezing in April.

You make a good point. However, if the theory behind the film 'The Day After Tomorrow' is to be believed, then global warming will lead to a massive global freeze as the gulf air streams are affected by the melting of the icecaps. Presumably this freeze will change the air stream again and we'll be back to the beginning!
