QUIT SMOKING,
TOO LATE!
More
than 40 years ago the doctor told me I had to quit smoking or suffer the
consequences.
Oh
yes, I tried to quit several times but never made it past a couple of months.
The reason
was
I really did not want
to quit, I enjoyed cigarettes, cough and all.
As
time passed, the morning cough got worse and so did the coughing during
the day. I, like
so
many other people blamed the cough on a "cold" or "sinus problems", but
in reality I knew
it
was the cigarettes causing this condition, I just did not want to admit
I was hooked.
When
I finally got serious, it was just a little over 2 years ago, and what
made me finally
realize
it was time to quit wasn't the cough or shortness of breath, but primarily
the cost of
cigarettes.
I tried one of those so-called seminars where they claim to "hypnotize"
you. That
was
a bad and expensive joke played on those of who really wanted to quit smoking.
What
they
fail to tell you is that a very large portion of the population simply
can
not be hypnotized!
What
finally worked for me was 2 things, first the WILL
TO QUIT and second, the crutch known
as
Nicoderm CQ. I don't know if it really helped or whether it was nothing
more than a mind
over
matter thing, but I've been smoke free now for over 2 years and plan to
stay that way!
We
won't dwell on the weight gain, but it was substantial, primarily because
after a couple
months
of being smoke free, food began to taste a lot better. You can't imagine
the change
in
the smell and taste of various things like food and beverages.
