Event Report - After the negoiating, this event finally can be continued as one of the best major ranking tournament. The qualifying rounds, from first to most of the fifth rounds, have been competed in the middle of January at the Newport Leisure Centre, UK. The remaining 48 players, including the top four, will join the final stage from the 3rd of March at the Montiem Riverside Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand. This is the second stop of the two successive oversea ranking tournaments. It is also the last of the three oversea events in the 1999-2000 season. So, don't miss it!! - 2/Mar - |

The World Snooker Association is delighted to announce that Thailand will
be the venue for the ninth ranking tournament of the 2000 season. Last season, World No3 Mark J Williams tasted victory in Bangkok, his triumph in the Singah Thailand Masters netting him a hat-trick of consecutive wins in ranking tournaments. Thailand became a hotbed of snooker when James Wattana burst onto the international scene and with another SE Asian star in Marco Fu now making his name, the game is set to enjoy increased exposure as the new millennium dawns. Following highly constructive meetings with Sindhu Pulsirivong, President of the Snooker Association of Thailand, and the WSA board, new chairman Mark Wildman expressed his confidence that the game will become even more popular in SE Asia. Mr Wildman said: "The decision to bring a ranking tournament back to Thailand is a real boost to the future of snooker in SE Asia. We are looking forward to working closely with the Snooker Association of Thailand in further promoting the sport." This confidence was echoed by new chief executive Peter Middleton, who commented: "Following excellent meetings with Sindhu Pulsirivong, we are pleased to announce that Thailand will play a vital part of what we are trying to achieve overseas. "Although the venue has yet to be finalised, progress is going well and a decision is expected very shortly." Sindhu Pulsirivong said: "I am delighted that following the changes at board level and in the management structure of the WSA, constructive meetings have been held. "Mark Wildman and Peter Middleton are extremely committed to the development of the game, and we anticipate that snooker will continue to grow. "We have every confidence that support for snooker in Thailand will increase with the return of such an important event." Thailand will become the third overseas ranking tournament alongside the China International in December and Malta in February. Mark J Williams reached his successive final in Bangkok by beating compatriot Dominic Dale 5-1,
thanks to the two winning respotted black frames. While Stephen Hendry resisted a determined fightback from Ken Doherty before recording a 5-3 win to reach the final. |

Dominic Dale set up an all-Welsh semi-final against Mark J Williams following a 5-2 victory over Mark King. Ken Doherty kept his impressive run going with a 5-3 win over Billy Snaddon to reach the semi-finals with world champio Stephen Hendry, who later extended his winning run against Matthew Stevens with a 5-1 success. |

The big guns started to fire up today. Matthew Stevens made a morning start with a break of 138,
while Stephen Hendry and Anthony Hamilton followed 109 and 102 in the afternoon match.
But the most valuable break today came at night when Mark J Williams compiled a break of 140, the highest of the tournament so far. Sixth Round : Despite those high-scoring breaks, Stevens and Hendry both had to battle to the last bullet in thteir matches. They both won their match in the deciding frame while Hendry even had a shock start of 3-0 in scoreline. The pair will face head to head tomorrow night in the quarter-final. Quarter Final : With his highest break of the season, it must be a pleasant day for Williams as he beat Stephen Lee to be the first man to reach the last four. |

By chance, Ken Doherty and Billy Snaddon both won their match today by going 3-0 down and fight back in five straight set.
They beat John Lardner and Jimmy White respectively in 5-3. While Welshman Dominic Dale won a tense battle with Anthony Davis. |

Fifth Round : Anthony Hamilton became the last member of the last 16 though Michael Judge made the first century of the tournament final stage. Sixth Round : Rocket Ronnie O'Sullivan was accidentally shot down by Mark King. He was leading 2-1 but then collapsed in an scrappy contest. Despite playing far from his form which led him to the top of the provisional rankings, a better look Mark J Williams saw off Joe Perry 5-3. |

Fifth Round : Former champion Stephen Hendry moved easily into the last 16 with a 5-0 whitewash of Andy Hicks. But John Higgins once again failed to jump his first hurdle here in Thailand. He lost to fellow Scot Billy Snaddon 5-3. Sixth Round : Stephen Lee is the first player to reach Quarter-final as he whitewashed Paul Hunter this morning. |

Fourth Round : James Wattana faced another defeat this time on home soil. He lost 5-2 to Michael Judge from Republic of Ireland. Fifth Rounds: Ronnie O'Sullivan won comfortably in his first round here and hoping to capture his second titles in Far East this season along with China International. While defending Champion Mark Williams overcame a stomach bug and a stubborn opponent to scrape into the last 16. |
